yeah true...why would you want Copa America to be broadcasted in the USA and worldwide by ESPN and get all that exposure and billions of dollars. why would you want that?
actually seeing how many fans came to support the US, I could see the commercial benefit of integrating US/Mexico into the Copa America full time...
maybe because I live in NZ I could care less about the USA and their millions all I want is for Conmebol to get back to just having a conmebol only tournament Concacaf have their Gold Cup how about they make that better and stop trying to slime their way into ours
Why is it that everytime this argument come up CONCACAF people always bring up "money issue" It's not like us fans see any of that money and I dont care about tv rights and all that I'm sure I could watch Argentinas games in Telefe or TyC and avoid those annoying unproffesional Mexican broadcasters, Get one thing straight Big companies Like Fox or Espn, Santander, Nissan, Toyota invest money in these South American tournaments not for the 105 million people in Mexico but for the 15 million Mexican living in the U.S. and the reason is because Mexicans rather watch their teams in Libertadores and Copa America rather than CONCACHAMPIONS (thats their name for real) or gold cup. because of teams like us or Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile and Ecuador who are better than most of the Concacaf if not all of it.
frustrated that you see only mexican things where you live, jajajjajaja man a mexican must have done something very bad to you, yeah those companies dont care about 105 million people in a country where they have branches of their companies ..........they invest inthe tourneys because they want to get their hands in both markets that is combined around 115 million people strong(of course not everyone likes futbol but a good % of them does like futbol)........... but i understand south americans not wanting us down there, you feel insecure thats why you make comments like the one you did.
i know south americans think they dont get much out of this, but remember not all south american teams are better than mexico or the US,and about the money thing,i bet conmebol is almost as corrupt as concacaf is so the money dont benefit all conmebol members but as long as the money gets to the "right" people in conmedol everything is possible.
Too bad United States is gone and only a handicapped Mexico will represent CONCACAF, if they allow them to do that.
I dont know why these discussions keep coming up. Concacaf put their foot down, saying none of the top teams that qualify in the mexican league are allowed to participate in the libertadores. Instead its the mid level teams under the top ones that end up participating. Not good for libertadores cause its sending in not great mexican sides, and sooner or later concacaf want to phase out mexican participation. Samething iwill probably occur with the copa america, and they will want to stop letting concacaf teams to participate in it to help bring more prestige and honor to the goldcup. Instead they might invite japan and maybe korea?
They should stop this BS and do it old school with two groups of 5 teams, best two of each group face each other in semifinals, like the Sudamericanos. We don't NEED 12 teams.
Or the first of each group advances to the semi-final while the 2nd plays the 3rd of the other group to get the other two semi-finalists.
The US and Mexico are there for the huge TV audiences. They should invite more different teams Maybe one tournament they could invite the former colonials Spain & Portugal Maybe another the two originators of the game England & Scotland (no fear of them winning it though) Honduras deserve another crack at it after their performance in 2001
I think UEFA would NEVER let that happen. I think they are the ones making a big stink abuot it, so dont ever expect to see a european club invited.... EVER.
Ofcourse we are insecure of that big powerful futbol nation of Mexico that has won everything under the sun. How envious we all are!
The US is not coming to the 2011 Copa America. I disagree with your view anyway. Makes sense to just have the 10 CONMEBOL teams participate, but 2 invites I can live with. Any more than that and it ceases to be a CONMEBOL tournament.
LOL, are having this discussion again... I heard that CONCACAF is trying to mix things up for 2015 and having all the "Americas" put into a big tourney. I think that is a JOKE. Not our fault they have a Micky Mouse tourney and they want to hang out with the cool kids i.e. Argentina,Brazil,Uruguay. STAY AWAY!
Actually having 2 invitess makes less sense than having the 10. Actually they wanted to have that years ago, i think it's more likely that we have the tournament on our own than having them involved, and the proof is Japan. Also CONCACAF wanted that years ago but couldn't reach anything, but there isn't anything on that they'll try again on 2015 either.
And you think they only want to have this "super Copa Americas", actually at the bottom, they want to host it as well. They want our teams to go back there and play against them. They are "nuts" for it , and it seems that they still believe that with mirrors and pearl buds, they`ll convince us to accept it, and afterwards they go crazy and mad when you say to them that it is only a wet dream the one they are having. I only hope that Leoz, Grondona and Texeira don`t fall for it. At the end these guys are corrupt as most of FIFA, and anything can happen when money is in stake for them.
Don't invite Asian or UEFA sides. Keep it within the continent. I'm all right with Mexico and the USA; Mexico is Latin American if not South American and the USA needs the competition from S. America. No disrespect to other CONCACAF sides, but Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua are not going to test Team USA the way Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina will.
If USA needs competition at least they could listen to the call when they're invited, and Nicaragua and Honduras are as south american as Mexico. At least Japan may have some respect for the tournament.
