But don't you think MLS should end its isolationist policies and be like every other league in the world (and by that, I mean the big four European leagues), even if it means the end of professional soccer in the US?
I have a question about the open cup, forgive me if it's stupid. It says it's open to ANY team in the country. So can the local men's rec league team enter the competition? Do they do it and have the preliminary rounds way in advance? Or is it just D3, PDL, A-league and MLS?

It's truly open, and a pub team made it pretty far a couple years back, losing to the Mid-Michigan Bucks. Had they won that match, they would've played the Revolution. Of course, since the Bucks won 6-0 or something, the likelihood of a trip to Foxboro was out of the question pretty early. But the prelims are pretty early. But, no I don't think that-- my point was just that people always mean be more like England, Italy, etc when they say "be more like the rest of the world"...
