A while ago now we had an enjoyable 80's album draft. Maybe it's time for another...?

Can't remember if it was a standard or snake draft and I thought we may have had a ban on live albums and compilations.

I've posted below in A-Z format all albums taken from the 1st draft which would be unavailable for this draft. So some big hitters off the board but still plenty left from a decade of music.

    Who's up for it...?

I missed out on that draft, about the only one I've not taken part in, and seeing how the voting went, I was happy to be out. There was a lot of dreck chosen while a lot of great stuff was left off.

    So, I'm in.

No snaking. Unless, I'm last. And then I'm all for it....

Well, in that draft, I said I could go for 100 rounds and not run out... big words!
I'm in.... again. Been so long since I was in a draft!

How many rounds? Only pop/rock or other kinds of music?

I know of several other Alarm records on which I could spend my first pick. In.

Do I gather that the albums chosen in the first draft will be off-limits? And that the list above is complete? If so I'm in.

I'm open to suggestions although I'd go between 10-12 rounds as a conservative estimate. As for criteria, it's whatever floats your boat.

Yep. And yep. That list above is a full list of the original draft and they are all unavailable.

If you go above 6, you are asking for trouble.

We've seen too many drafts gently expire if they go 10-12 rounds. And I've always wanted longer drafts, but it should be much tighter: 7 rounds max. And I think any album released in the 80s ought to count.
I suppose it was a vain hope for Declaration to make it to the third round...

I think you get around that if you have a relatively short window-- six hours maybe-- and the next person goes on the clock with the first guy able to draft at any point thereafter.

Personally I think 10 rounds is workable.

I think we tried 12 hours on the song draft and by the middle rounds we had skipped so many people so many times we didn't know who was picking. I think we foolishly proposed a 20 round book draft but by round 7 we'd thrown in the towel and only made it to 10.

I'm open to a majority vote on the number of rounds. I haven't taken part in a draft in this forum for a while but I distinctly remember the previous album drafts hitting 12 rounds without too much trouble.

So it looks like either going for -

    a) 6 or 7 rounds
    b) 10 rounds

    10,
    with a strict selection window.

(just a preference -- I'm fine with any number)

I'd be happy to go with 10 as well. It might be worth listing people geographically rather than randomly when we have a final number of participants.

Will it really matter if someone has a high selection in a draft like this...?

Obviously I'm Europe based but will more than happily PM someone with selections to keep things moving along.

And I know it's been a while since the new format -- but does everyone know how the new PM system works?
    • 'Starting a Conversation' with someone via their profile link (clicking on their name or avatar); or
    • The 'Inbox' in the upper right of the BS interface; or
    • Tagging someone via the @ system, e.g. the next person selecting is @frasermc -- who I believe should get an Alert thanks to that.

    Check.

I think a draft order dependant on time zones may be the way to go.

    I'm in if it's 7 or less. I don't think I can come up with 10.

Let's MLS it: a certain number of rounds followed by a Supplemental Draft, which many teams sit out all or part of. So seven rounds and three supplemental rounds.

10 is a nice round number. I'm inclined to give it another 24hrs or so max for any other players and then, if we can all agree on the number of rounds, we get this show on the road.
