8/5 Man. U vs. Urawa Red Diamonds

I'm thinking Spector gets a start, given the weekend Charity Shield and European qualifier mid-week next week. After all, what is depth if you can't use it in a meaningless exhibition against a light-weight during a heavy schedule week?

Good point. And let's hope that Cooper can at least make the bench.

That would be good, but I expect Louis Saha to get minutes up top since he has so few this preseason.

Yeah, I don't think Cooper is in the plan early this year...(barring injury)

Will Spector make an appearance? We'll see in a few minutes.

The last game in the stadium, PSV vs. Boca Juniors was abandoned in the 78th minute.

Not sure yet if the kickoff will be delayed or the second game abandoned. Lightning storm is still ongoing.

    Stay tuned...

Sheesh, my thread wasn't good enough for ya'? Was it due to a lil' ol' (R)?

(Using R rating is usually prohibitive! :)

Would be a shame if cancelled since I was reckoning that Spector plays. Having said, maybe it could open up Charity Shield game for him? (doubt it, but one never knows). I doubt he plays CS if he plays this one..

Sorry. Where was it? I must be blind because I looked for it high and low.

By the way, weather appears to be clearing...

Rain is hammering down and Old Tratford looks about an MLS stadium in 1997.

    Still no decision on kickoff.

Its the Vodafone tourney in Manchester.

Decision on the match in 10 minutes.

Lineup is rumored to be a "youthful" side including a young American named Spector....

Its been decided: The game will be abandoned with each team receiving one point. Boca Juniors win the Vodafone Cup.

Spector was all suited up and listed to start. What a shame. A few sad young faces in the tunnel.

I don't know about the decision to award the cup to Boca. I know it's meaningless but how can you crown a champion to a tourney that was never completed?

As for Spector, I'm sure he would have loved to play at OT. A good showing in front of the home fans would have given given his career an even bigger jump. But, he may now get in the CS match. Who knows, things normally work out.

Doubtful. The talking heads on Sky Sports seem to be convinced that since he'll use the CS as a full dress rehearsal. Any remaining chances to have a look at other options was lost tonight.

Also, agree on the weird ending to the tourney but that is who was announced as the winner.

I would play my best 11 against Arsenal if I were them too! Winning the CS was one of the few bright spots for United last season and it could be this year as well if they can't get their squad sorted sometime before 2005.

Definently a shame. Besides the professional opportunity lost, and being able to play at OT, we all remember how awful it feels to get 'up' for a game, dressed, and then have a game called. Ugh. Those memories stick forever.

Hopefully, Fergie will take the lads all out for coke, pizza, and video games. Worked in my day.. :)

An even bigger shame is that thousands of fans flew in from Japan to see their team play against ManU at OT. Most of them are still standing around with a look of disbelief on their faces. A real shame.

    Edit....

Now a classy move by the Urawa players going up into the stands to thank their fans for coming. Thousands now signing in the rain...

It's better that he misses out on playing this team than Bayern, Celtic, or Milan. 10 matches against the Red Diamonds wouldn't come close to matching the experience he got during the past two weeks.

I think they finally got the Urawa fans to move on.
