I can't believe it. I rate Pontius higher than even Zusi. Deleon should be there too. Same as McCarty and O' Brien.
Pontius would have been called in but is injured. Jurgen has said this camp will not be about getting fitness back, but preparing guys (up to 7) that will need to be on the roster.
Here it is in print: Rimando, Shea and Pontius were all hurt http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...1/06/klinsmann-sets-u-s-training-camp-roster/
Buddle is surprising considering he wasn't playing much for LA but he had Landon and Keane in front of him so it'd be hard for any US striker to play.
Guys I'm definitely surprised to see: Beltran, DeLaGarza, Feilhaber, Buddle Guys I'm mildly surprised to see: Lade, Bedoya Guys I didn't really see coming but think he might be on to something (in the short term): Parke, Davis, Evans Most egregious snub IMO: DeLeon
knew the uninformed would come in and scream pontius... good call ups. right guys. especially gonzalez.
I know. Can't believe he left off one of the best "big chance" creators. Davis should have been looked at a loooooooooong time ago. Ditto Bedoya. DeLeon is a pretty big snub. McCarty too. Feilhaber and Buddle don't deserve to be anywhere near this team. Lade: As a NY fan let me just say you won't find a harder working player with a better attitude. His strengths are speed, ground covered, intensity, and technical skill. His weaknesses are his tactical understanding of the game and quick decision making. Even at the MLS level. He is a LONG way away from being ready for the speed at which the international game is played, but really that experience and quick thinking is the only thing that's missing for him. Good to bring him in early so he can see how much work he has to do. Probably won't be seriously ready for the Nats for another 3-4 years...if he improves tactically that is.
I'm disappointed that McCarty didn't get a call-up, but I'm not particularly surprised (I had in mind that a suspended Jones would keep him out, not Evans, but still). I personally am an admirer of Feilhaber but he simply has not been in anything like good form over this past year and I just don't see his trend line looking positive for the future. That's just me. And I expect even less from Buddle. It's kind of shocking that Lade would make the team and Dax wouldn't, but I'm not down on Lade. I just think that he's very green and Backe hadn't really found the ideal role for him yet. We'll see how whoever does with him this year, but I think they'd be silly not to consider him a part of their plans moving forward, particularly with Lindpere out of the picture. This will hopefully be good for him. (I'm a Quakes fan but I live in Brooklyn and go to a few Redbulls games a year. I know them better than probably any team apart from SJ.)
Many NY fans think Lade projects as a LM in the long run. Funny seeing as how he was a CB in college and converted to a RB this year! (he's a lefty). Henry is certainly a big fan of his too. That, to me, speaks volumes.
Glad to see: Gonzalez, Besler, Davis, Beodya, Feilhaber, Gatt Pretty obvious, but good calls: Zusi, Beckerman, Hamid, Johnson Less obvious, but OK: Beithasour, Not here due to injury: Rimando, Shea, Pontius, Gordon Maybe later: Jones, Edu Surprising: Lade, Morrow, Morales Snubs: DeMerit, DeLeon, maybe Myers and Williams
Starters in a 4-4-2 would be: F: Wondo and Agudelo M: EJ, Diskerud, Beckerman, Gatt D: Garza, Gonzo, Besler or Morales?, Beitashour G: Hamid
May I suggest this is the type of sentiment that has hurt Freddy. To much hype, to much hope, to much expectation, to many chances given...then feel bad or make excuses, attack others when things don't go his way. Not saying u do this, but it surely hasn't helped him. His legion of blind/ignorant followers propping him up even when the issues are clearly there surely can't help. Poster boy for future "great hope/hype" folks. I love mocking the Adu zealots, but I am truly sad, but not at all surprised, he isn't there.
