Anyone over the age of 12 who gets excited seeing themselves on a video board has got serious issues. But there are lots of people out there that fall into this category. I don't get it.
Agreed. I know a few in the Fort as well that are the same way ... won't sing, but when the camera's on them, everything changes.
Sound Wave was moved to the North End, opposite from ECS, which resolved some of the issues. I haven't been out there lately, so I can't speak to how much they're actually playing during the run of play. I've heard them on broadcasts, but not too prominently. The band is still front and center at the March to the Match and they perform postgame.
I don't remember them playing that much (if at all) during the Revs game when I was out there this year.
No one is upset. Someone suggested that it was somewhat pathetic that the FO didn't let the SG's know about the band. Other people agreed. You can water it down with hyperbole to try and strengthen your point if you want, but everyone else sees through it.
To be honest, I don't know if I would like a marching band at a soccer game. I have never experienced it (arrived late to Sounders game). If it were to happen, the band would have to modify to fit the flow of the game. Football and basketball are more suited to a marching or pep band with frequent stoppages of play and obvious sustained drives and momentum shifts. I wouldn't want to hear full songs like Birdland, or Hey Baby. But playing some popular songs at kick-off, like some Black Eyed Peas, would be enjoyable to many in the crowd. Many people outside of the Fort, and even within the Fort, don't care about Supah Revs, or Mama Mama. If there was collaboration with the marching band, and they played When the Saints Go Marching In, most of the crowd would not even know to substitute the word Revs in there. I think a drum roll on a goal kick with a trombone slide as the ball is in the air would be a good addition as I have seen that at football games during kickoffs.
So now your whole opinion on the matter boils down to the fact that you think the majority of Gillette Revs attendees wouldn't care about Revs supporters songs. You should try out for the Pats. They need some help in their secondary, and you are showing great backpedaling ability.
It's not a matter of whether I think the majority of Revs attendees wouldn't care (future tense), it's that the majority of Revs attendees don't care (present tense). You think Supah Revs and Mama Mama can compete with the Black Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga marching band arrangement? If the Fort songs were so great, you'd have more fans joining in. The 2nd half capo was yelling for people in your own section to stand up and sing. Those people were likely there as part of the high school night as the people behind me were parents of high school kids that returned every so often to ask for food money. So, you guys don't even have enough supporters to fill your supporters section. Based on that, I do think that Revs attendees would enjoy hearing a familiar pop song than whatever the Fort is chanting. Even then, I also added that a marching band at a soccer match would have to adjust to fit the flow of the game, so I am still not endorsing the endeavor entirely. Obviously if there was a marching band, the Fort would have to adjust as well to friendlier melodies that could be accompanied by instruments. Basically all of the preceding pages were a discussion on whether that specific band even had the opportunity to collaborate given the amount of time they had to prepare. My opinion is that they would not have enough time to prepare. Others disagreed. I think now the discussion has changed to a different issue regarding whether having a marching band would be a good or bad thing. Some have expressed their disinterest in the idea. I'm not clearly for it or against it, just think it would be interesting. In my opinion, the Fort would have greater influence on the gameday experience if it partnered with a band on songs like seven nation army, or even when the saints go marching in (as long as the crowd knew to substitute the word), etc. This would be super high tech coordination, but how about a sing along ball like with the national anthem. Pick a song, coordinate with HD screen and have the words up there.
There is nothing worse than forced atmosphere and it does not belong in this sport. The day we have sing alongs on the video boards is the day that supporters culture in New England takes it's final breath... if I wanted that I would be a season ticket holder for any of the other sports in town so they can tell me to "MAKE SOME NOIZE!!!!!!!"
First, there is already a sing along in the national anthem, which provides the words to the song. Second, I indicated it would be a collaboration. Not that the organization would pick the song. It shouldn't be hard for the Fort to pick a song, communicate which song was chosen to the organization, and then have the words appear on the big screen. No one would be forcing you to "make some noise." You guys complain about the atmosphere, yet you guys don't make it easy for other fans to learn the lyrics of your songs. How hard would it be to have the lyrics to "We Love New England" on the big screen so other people can sing along. Hey, maybe the big screen could also let people know about the youtube videos on the website.
Since most of the stadium doesn't care about the Fort songs, let's just screw the band, screw the Fort, and let the stadium speakers just play Lady Gaga and Black Eyes Peas all game! Problem fixed, we'll have 50,000 a game! I really have no idea what is being argued at this point.
Isn't there a game this Sat with San Jose? Beautiful weather forceasted, holiday weekend, youth soccer tournaments, 2 playoff-eliminated teams.... any thoughts/numbers on attendance? Football lines for Pats game on Sun?
JDEsq09 thinks it's about a Marching Band, LOL...Everyone else knows its about FO Communication/Apathy/Arrogance/Power/Control/Self Righteousness and general "who gives a $hit what 16 year die hard 90min vocal supporters think"... That just about sums up about 99.84% of everything ever discussed in this forum...the other .16% Revs tactics and unimportant stuff like that!!
How how is it to sing "We Love New England, we do x3 and then Oh New England we love you". Sorry that is simple. Also it is not up to the Fort to put up the songs on the big screen. It cost $75 per ad x how many times you want it to be up. So who is going to pay for that ad. Other than mama mama our chants are so simple and easy. You have to be the dumbest person in the world to not learn them. Also quite a few times a chant sheet has been passed out and the newbies to the Fort tear them up and do not even pay attention to them.
Which makes the Revs the only team I know of in the league which must endure this insult. If Seattle has to spend all night removing the gridiron, they do it.
To borrow from the byline, perhaps I was having a summit on the marching band, while you guys were holding a summit on mistreatment. But it goes back to the main point, it's only insulting if the FO didn't inform the Fort of the presence of the marching band, IF there actually was enough time for the band to collaborate with the band. But I think you guys have to understand that you're just customers or consumers. I don't understand why you guys feel disrespected by the FO so much. Take the product that is being offered or leave it. Do you guys also expect this much control in other places where you spend money? Do you want influence on telling your local grocery store which items to include on the advertising flyer? I was in the Fort during the game when you guys walked out. Guess what, the game went on without you guys. To feel mistreated because a marching band was invited and you guys didn't know is a joke. Ok, so the band drowned you guys out for 10 minutes. So what? You guys are probably 150 people in a stadium with 20,000 customers. Your defenses in Fortgate were that 1) SG leaders could not, by virtue of their leadership, control all members of the Fort, and 2) that the Fort also contains non-SG attendees that are not under SG control. Here's a solution, fill the Fort with SG members! It wouldn't be as bad if the rest of the attendees at least had an interest about what was going on in the Fort, but they don't. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I thought of this earlier, at last Saturday's game, I don't recall ever seeing a vendor once in the Fort, especially not a beer vendor. Am I wrong about this?
Seriously, enough about this. No one cares about the stupid marching band. Hey, Kraft Out hacked into your account. Better alert the authorities! Several people have commented in the FO F-ups thread that the only reason they still come to games is the people they have met through this thing called "supporters culture." The irony that I am sure you are smart enough to spot is that if the FO had their druthers, and this pesky "hooligan" culture were stamped out, a whole lot more of the people who expressed that view in the thread would have bailed a long time ago. The FO has the "right" to do whatever the hell they want. We don't have to like it, and we don't have to remain customers. They can choose to do things that will build a better business and make the Revs a stronger team if they want, but sadly, they seem to have no inclination to do that. All the other teams that embrace supporters culture and are fun places to see a game (even for people who are not likely to be part of a group) are wrong. The Revs are right and know better.
Yes it did. And the crowd was stunned to silence because the Revs were down 2-0. You and Brad Feldman at least are on the same page. You're also right that we're just consumers. We should fill the supporter's section. I'm sorry apparently I haven't done enough having paid for over 10,000 tickets in the first 16 years of this team (home and away) on my credit cards. I've only brought in 15-20 season ticket holders. I have no right to complain. After all the most of the rest of the crowd cares so much about what's going on in the game, why would they want supporters? "Ahhhh I'm on the diamondvision!" If that's the highlight for those people and not the game on the field, I can fully understand why we should just suck it up and shut up and not complaint. My apologies ... you're a better fan than I because you don't complain.
Well I can't really blame them.... we are the tailgaters and do most our drinking outside, plus, we sing all the time, so, they don't interrupt us, plus, they sell piss. When are they going to get hip to the fact that we are soccer people and like better beer. We are not Pat's fans who love beer with no flavor like that ghastly Coors Lite.
