    No, only 2.

Cambodia won the first leg, 4-2. In the second leg, Laos won 4-2 in regulation. So that made the aggregate, 6-6, with away goals also equal. In the added extra time, Laos scored 2 goals to win the aggregate, 8-6.

Those groups aren't too interesting. South Korea, Japan, Australia, Iran, and the Saudis should all qualify comfortably. Quite similar to the semifinal round in concacaf.

Yep, very similar. They could have made it a bit more interesting by having this group stage determine the draw for the final two groups but they say they are going to reseed for that. So the big teams in this round can prety much just cruise since there is no penalty for finishing in 2nd.

I would say that the only real surprise is the Peru-Paraguay result..but really, Peru is on the climb, and Paraguay's style of play isn't very goal-generating.

    Congrats to the vinotintos. :D

Both of Chile's games have involved a team scoring four goals. Their games are always entertaining.

Not a WC qualifier, but the Mexico x Brazil game last night was really fun. I'm still not convinced that Ronaldinho is going to be on the team in 2014, but some of his skills will never go away. It was also interesting that the feeds on Univision and ESPN2 were on opposite sidelines. I guess that was to allow different ads for different markets on the sign boards along the sidelines? But it was interesting that one angle was higher and wider, while the other was lower. I sorta liked being able to switch between the two and see different angles.

    word!

both teams were playing like it counted. what was up with Brasil celebrating that 2nd goal like they won the World Cup? that deserved some 'kidney water' thrown in their direction. :D

i really, really liked Marcelo. dude played like he had some of our famous "Chicken" tacos. i was furiously texting the entire game with fellow soccerheads about how that's one weird Braislian team. i've never seen a Brasilian team designed to specifically get-at people defensively in that manner. they were rough (but not dirty) following through on tackles to soften the Mexican offensive players. that a Brasilian team is now concerned with playing as much defense (even moreso than the Dunga years) as much as offense is just a scary scenario.

I saw the replay on Venezuela beating Argentina 1-0 wow..Argentina either is too confident or they really need to get their act together..
When Fernando Amorebieta score in the second half, Messi was pretty much out of the picture - maybe it fatigue.

I'm not sure about the goal celebration. I didn't see or hear anything specific about it at the time. I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that Marcelo scored. He was dropped from the squad in the past and says he promised to his grandfather, who recently died, that he would play his way back into the national team. This goal should certainly help his cause. He also reportedly had a number of conflicts with Mano Menezes, although I don't recall Mano ever actually saying that he wouldn't call Marcelo back up again.

Mano is still in something of a difficult situation. The team started out playing well under him, but has obviously had some very mixed performances. There are a lot of people, particularly media pundits, who want him out. He was known as a defensive coach at the club level and was maybe the third choice to replace Dunga. Part of the problem is that Scolari has already said he wants to coach the national team again and is lurking, for now, at Palmeiras. Muricy Ramalho, who had great success at São Paulo, was probably the first choice, but didn't take the job at the time, reportedly because Fluminense wouldn't let him go. But he's now at Santos and could presumably be available again. So, Mano is just in a tough situation, with two more big name coaches available for the job.
