    General notes:
    • The only guys making significantly under 50K are Berner and Watts, our two later round draft picks.
    • Mullan at only 50K? Clearly getting ready to retire
    • Buddle + Chavez + Mwanga = 700K riding the bench last week
    • LaBrocca at 150K and Sturgis at 125K is a lot for two players that essentially duplicate each other
    • The rest of the 6 figure crew seem reasonable, especially if not all of Moor and Wynne's numbers hit our cap.
    • Last year's RapKids (Brown, Irwin, Klute, and Powers) all got decent raises.

    My vote for the most overpaid? Mwanga. I'm also a little surprised how high Chavez is, but he could yet become an important component of the team this year. I don't see that for Mwanga.

    And Buddle, too, I suppose.

    Kinda surprised at how much rookie Harriston makes, I don't remember a kid coming out of college getting that much. He makes more than Klute, Irwin, and Hill. Seems strange.

    It's because he's Generation Adidas, I believe. All the GA rookies make the same amount, if I'm not wrong.

    Not exactly the same amount, but they all get significantly more than other draftees.

    Irwin basically got a 100% raise, but when you compare him to other starting keepers in the league, he is still underpaid. Don't know how he isn't in the six figure range. Although knowing the Rapids there will be some big pay raise in a later year and we will deem him too expensive to keep around.

    Chavez is definitely the albatross of the new guys. I would like to see him get on the field because I think he has quality to match that salary, but I don't know where he fits in this team right now.

    In reality he's probably being paid 100k. Remember that he has that special roster designation where half of his actual salary is as a "player" while the other half is as a "coach".

    Take off Fatson Bungle and it doesn't look nearly as bad. He really is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only did he get paid a big salary last year and contributed little or nothing of value to the team, but he's now gotten a raise and has contributed even less value to the team. Fat, useless, hack. Buddle should be waived and released from his contract immediately. He's a USL-teir player making a high-end MLS-tier salary.

    They're both center mids, but their hardly duplicates in their utility. When was the last time you saw LaBrocca play right back? Or Sturgis play CAM?

    ~~~
    Generally speaking, with only a few exceptions, it's still a bit early in the year to judge if play time justifies salary. Remember that we've only played 4 games.
    If Jose Mari keeps giving us goals and performances like he did on Saturday that $261K will be a bargain. Sanchez has earned every bit of that $287K. All in all the salaries were not too far off of what I suspected for each player --- aside from Mwanga, that is. I'm still scratching my head on that figure but I do realize the rapids were hamstrung as they inherited that number from Portland.
    No, I checked when his new contract was announced. He's a player only.
    Nope, they gave Mwanga a new contract this past off-season.
    I guess I don't understand his situation much. Per @GoRapids, he is actually getting paid something on top of his player salary, but that it's not a league wide thing. It's something the Rapids have done independently for longtime players that have served at the club. Apparently Jamie Smith was in a similar setup last year.
    I think this is the right formula in a cap league. Even the perceived "wasted" money gets some production. All that’s missing is that big off budget star. It’s too bad that KSE sends this cheap signal to fans year in year out.
    I remember there being talk of Rapids going player/ coach route but then it changed according to Bianchi most likely.
    Lets not forget he's got knee surgery on Rapids dime this pre-season.
    We are 3rd from the bottom in salaries, however, roughly $600K separates 12th and 19th. In retrospect that isn't a whole lot of money. Although by MLS standards you could argue otherwise. Anyway, so while we are 3rd from the bottom the Rapids aren't too far off from the majority of the pack.
    Off topic.......What's nuts is that MLS total compensation is $115M while the Broncos (and all NFL teams) have a total salary cap of $133M.
    In general I'm surprised to see multiple players over or M.O.E. % at the same as our heralded DP -- shows how transfer$ skew things (?) and for me forgives somewhat our DP's slow start. When regular 'squad' players make those 1/4 M(+) salaries and stars make substantially more we will have arrived? Hopefully this summers WC gives a boost that as it works through the system will rachet the cap up at a non-incremental rate for a few seasons. Probably have to happen to attract more foreign talent to fuel more significant expansion?
    Chavez needs to play, Buddle may collect about $100k per goal this year?
    IMO...
    Overpaid:
    - Buddle (how on earth did he get a raise)?
    -Mwanga
    -Wynne
    -Chavez (perhaps)
    Underpaid:
    -Irwin
    -O'Neil
    -Anyone making that $36,500
    **I don't necessarily think Hill is underpaid but I'll be damned if he doesn't keep stickin' around with that sub $50k salary he makes each year.
    Did Sanchez get a raise, or is his salary reflective of the same rate from last year but he got less last season b/c he came in part way through?
    Always some interesting facts when MLS salary numbers are released by the players' union (such as Dempsey making more than the entire roster of 15 of the 19 clubs).
    One of interest: Beckerman $378,000. Ballouchy $65,000. That was one hell of a trade back then, wasn't it?
    Also that our DP is not the highest paid player on the squad (Gabby is actually 4th on the team). And Danny Mwanga at $171k - so when do we get to see him play?
    Mwanga is not worth seeing play let alone re-signing this past off-season.
    Wasn't it a renegotiation? I don't think he was out of contract, but you would think his numbers would have changed but they haven't.
    - Mwanga - seriously, he makes that much???
    - Moor - Everyone likes to pick on Wynne, but I think Moor has more flaws than Wynne). He gets a premium for "leadership" but I'm not sure how much extra he should get for that.
    - Burch - He doesn't get it done for me.
    Powers, O'Neill, Irwin, and Sanchez are all giving VERY good value for their salary. I know he doesn't have a long history with the club, but Sanchez has to be one of the top 3-4 players to ever put on the kit.
