For us who don't follow on twitter, what was the second half lineup? Was it just piecemeal subs, or did we bring in a whole new XI? And, you know, what was the result?
1-0 Crew 2nd half: Clark; Friedman, Gehrig, Williams, Wahl; George, Viana, Speas, Meram; Oduro, Arrieta
Clark; Friedman, Gehrig, Williams, Wahl; Speas, George, Viana, Meram; Oduro, Arrieta Whole new 11. Arrieta scored on a scrappy corner from Meram flicked back to the middle by Wahl and finished in traffic from 2 yards out early in the 2nd half. The feed skipped the next 30 minutes and cut to the end, 1-0 final for the W.
According to the MLS site, Arrieta got the goal, and we won 1-0. Ar-ri-et-a. Jairo Ari-ri-et-a! Hopefully a sign of things to come.
Fifi, Trapp, Anor, Meram, Speas, Oduro and Arrieta stood out for me in what I was able to see. Slogic, Sweat, Finley and Jiminez looked ho hum at best to me in the first half.
If you don't think this team, based on today's performance and result, is poised to go 20-4-10 this season playing soccer that flies by then you're insane. Insane!
The commentators seemed to be reasonably impressed by what they saw. They liked Fifi for sure. It was interesting to hear what other guys (nor from Columbus) thought.
First half: ----------------------------Lampson Barson-----------Slogic-------------Parkhurst-----------Sweat ------------------------Trapp-------Baiden --------Jimenez------------Higuain--------------Anor ------------------------------Finley Second half: ------------------------------Clark Friedman---------Gehrig------------Williams------------Wahl ---------------------George---------Viana ------------Oduro-----------Speas--------------Meram ------------------------------Arrieta Pointless and stupid observation Speas looked better than Higuain; of course Higuain joined the team late because he was injured and is still recovering hence pointless and stupid. Clark and Lampson is a good battle; I give the edge to Clark. Barson has the edge on Friedman and I certainly think it's his spot to lose and he won't. I don't think the edge is a big as some who have never seen Friedman play thought. Sweat is comparable to Wahl he needs more confidence and games to get up to speed. Sweat was out of position a few times but he's just learning how to play at this level. That said get well Francis I really hope you're our best left back. I really hope neither Parkhurst or Williams get injured. I'm giving Slogic a bit of a pass since he's only been in camp three or four days, he had some glaringly bad plays but showed some decent footwork and pace for his size. Oduro over Jimenez is an easy choice. Best battle Anor vs Meram; I'd actually give the edge to Meram on the day. If good Arrieta is back we're going to have a great year. Finley... please Arrieta don't get injured; Bedell and Schoenfeld have an opening our forward depth is terrible. From what we could see: ------------------------------Clark Barson-----------Williams-------------Parkhurst-----------Sweat ------------------------Trapp-------Viana ------------Oduro-----------Higuain--------------Meram ------------------------------Arrieta Speas, Anor, Lampson, Friedman, Baiden, Gehrig, and Wahl
I was introduced to some players on our roster who I didn't know exist, so there's that. I thought I was paying attention, too.
I watched most of the first half but the fog was pretty thick. Couldn't really see the far sideline action. Malmo had the better of it in the first half (at least the parts I saw). We subbed in a whole new lineup at the half while Malmo only used a couple of subs then. Good job by Arrieta on the poach.
He's definitely got poise and skill, but he also has some mental things to work on. I'll assume it's youth more than anything else. Still, it worries me. Should I say it? I probably shouldn't say it. But maybe... Nah, I won't say it. Actually, I will say it. Maybe I'll just ask it. Tony Tchani 2.0?
