Because the other Americans there don't currently have any direct connection to NWSL, and this is a thread in the NWSL board. Context, you know.

Of the whole Damallsvenskan and with a margin to two to one to everyone else in it except Mittag.

KC waived Tiffany Cameron. Boston waived Jo Dragotta, declined to pick up option on Ashley Phillips.

Dragotta surpises me. Phillips wasnt expected to play so that was a given. Cameron unfortunately was in an international spot. If not for that maybe they keep her.

I'm not surprised by Boston waiving Dragotta. She fell out of favor once Avant came on board. Her last game was a cameo at the end of their 2-0 win over Portland at the beginning of July.

Seattle waived Kristina Larsen and Kristen Meier. No surprise there.

Shocker from Portland. Nikki Marshall was waived.

That really doesn't make any sense. And if it's because of the cap, that's just ridiculous.

Yeah, this is the first head-scratching move of the offseason.

Well last year the camp roster was 32 so it isnt about roster spots...the only thing it could be about is freeing up money for off season moves. Personally I may have cut the other Nikki.

Here's my totally out of left field guess...they've got Meghan Klingenberg coming back from Sweden. She got that UNC connection and plays FB. They arent going to pay Marshall starters money if they arent going to start her. Ud think they could have traded her tho.

Can she stay healthy for an entire season, though?

Can Sinclair, Holiday, Rampone, or any other player?

We know Washington, Edwards Heath, and Morgan couldn't.

I think lots of folk, including me, wondered it Kat Williamson could stay healthy on Turf for a full season after her history of Three injuries in five years.

I thought of Ellertson as well but isnt that throwing ur eggs all in one basket. Not only was she talking about retiring but ur releasing a 25 yo for a 31 yo.

I talked to her last night about her plans. There was no retirement talk.

And she is a uswnt caliber player. How many goals were scored this year with her on the pitch?

The basket only has room for 18 players. Until the basket gets bigger, all teams will have to make choices like that.

Im not saying she isnt an upgrade, just that if this is a one and done, it's was a long term mistake.

[correction]Actually 18 is just the minimum, a team can have up to 20 players - assuming the rule isn't changed.[/correction]
    Carry on.

Oh, I think it was a mistake alright. But the mistake wasn't Ellertson, it was releasing Marshall.

I still have reservations that the coach has certain blind spots when it comes to player evaluations.

Functionally, in Portland's case, it's only 20 if they get a full complement of allocated players or the salary cap goes up. And it looks like Mexico isn't going to pony up those players, in fact, they may pull out altogether.

I only asked about Ellertson because of the hamstring problems she had in her WPS days. Who knows if that issue will come up again?

I think we all have questions about that. The college draft will be very interesting, that's for sure.

If the selections in the college draft are allotted by record, Portland will choose last as they did this year, they will choose last in any other draft, and they will get last pick in waivers just like this year.. Coupled with no possibility of trading for any Mexican players ( same confederation trades only) and no compensation for the salaries of no-show allocations, and what Portland can do to upgrade is very limited.

And even if they do get a pick in the draft that is decent, they won't really have money to keep such a player from going to Europe because they need to stretch the salary cap across two extra players. ( reference Amber Brooks)
