As completely arbitrary as these things are have to say SI’s seems really off base. RSL at #2 & NYRB at #4? That seems totally predicated on their respective MLS Cup Final and Supporters’ Shield performance. Neither team upgraded over the offseason and arguably both lost key components, RSL with Kreis and NYRB and Espindola.

These are great. I like tracking how we're doing over the course of a season. Thanks for starting the thread.

They have a really good midfield and if Goncalves shows up like he did last year they have a good defense also. Play really nice soccer and have a lot of up coming talent. Would recommend people watch a couple games of them. Then of course there is Rowe and Diego.

In reading the summaries of why RSL ranked where they did, did the analysts watch the game? They write like RSL dominated the entire 90. I mean, huh? I guess beating us swoops you to number 1. Not only that, but in the LA paragraph, they mention that with a few inches, we could have taken at least a point out of the game. So...huh?

Also, SI ranking us BELOW NY - the team that lost 4-1 in its opening week? I mean, WTF?

Yea, the explanations are normally pretty wild. I thought we would maybe drop a spot or two but I don't think these guys watch all the games. Just like you I just like to skim these to see what people are thinking of the teams.

The SI person is on crack I've decided.

The only thing I’ll give him credit for was not vaulting TFC to a top 5 position like a some of the others.

Always feel like Jeff Carlisle (ESPN) grades us on our own curve. To put it in perspective, he ranked us two ahead of Chivas.

Wow. Talk about rankings this week being all over the place from the three publications listed. Not just for LA I mean.

Here's the MLS.com writeup: On paper, this really should be the best team in the league. But something about them so far is leaving us cold – there doesn't seem to be any spark out there. LA fans shouldn't be worried yet, but they should be wary.

Don't agree with the spark thing, but we shall see.

On my first read, I thought you were ranking the websites!
Who jumped ahead of SI? And who is #1?

Columbus was #1 for both sites.
FCD leapfrogged into the top and took a spot that bumped us down to 8th.

Basically, when you don't have a game, this happens...

I don't know. Sometimes our club looks better when its NOT playing than it does when it actually takes the field.

I think overall, the season start has been weird, disjointed, and no one knows what to make of it so far. I sure don't.

SI: RSL, FCD, TFC, Crew, SKC, Dynamo, Union, Seattle, Rapids, LA (10)

Team of the week (MLS): Landon at forward, Gonzo and Keane on the bench
Somehow Nagbe beat out LD for TOTW at SI.com. Not sure how since he had fewer successful passes, fewer key passes, and 0 assists.

I think we are being penalized for how many games we've played relative to the rest. And although they are supposed to not judge based on CCL, think that's totally influencing matters.

MLSsoccer has us up to 6th. That feels more right.

On a PPG basis we are now 5th behind FCD, Colorado, TFC and Columbus. Hopefully ESPN and SI recognize that, MLS.com had it about right!

I'm with Cadaver, let's stay low for a couple more weeks in the Power Rankings so we can continue to stay under the radar. Since we have a couple less games than most other teams if we continue to take care of business it may not show in the table but we will have a good PPG.
