Good numbers overall, Highly impressed by the Indy number im sure it will normilize as the season goes on just like San Antonio did after the first year, but 11k is nice.
I felt like there were more people at the Rowdies game, which tells me that the attendance number is legit. Bill Edwards made it clear that he was totally against comp tickets, so just about every person who attended last night's game actually paid for theirs. I've yet to hear anyone say they got theirs for free this time around like I did in seasons past.
You guys now have an owner that is really committed to making the Rowdies franchise the best it could be. I wish every team had the vision like Bill Edwards has. I'll be in Tampa later this summer and look forward to attending a match at Al Lang Field.
Indy did a fantastic job with the venue. The seating behind the golas was placed up on the track and right behind the goal great for the supporters section. ESPN and the NASL could not have picked a better first game for its game of the week on ESPN3. The Broadcast was very professional on the local INDY network. Getting linked with ESPN in anyway is nothing but a plus as games will be promoted with other programming. With ESPN3 high profile of NCAA sports and other pro sports leagues while the many who are looking for programming lineup for ESPN3 will be able to see the NASL games. ESPN3 also has a 4 screen ability to show four games at once. So I could watch the NASL while taking in an Arena football game
I'm in the Brickyard Batallion, and the stands are great seats. You are right on top of the action, and of course the BYB and Slaughterhouse-19 leadership is excellent.
I think for the Cosmos it would be kind of disapointing if the stadium was not full at a 10K or so for opening day. The match is only a few minutes in the crowd most likley will be filling in from all of the pre game activities off site
7,906 in NY. Looks about right. Cosmos and their fans will be disappointed with that turn out though. Overall not a bad opening weekend for NASL. 7,288 average attendance.
Agreed.. Even with the low turnout it was a great game and it's a solid start to the short spring campaign.
Really solid start to the season. Here's hoping that it continues all year. (3) teams had over 7,000 (1) team had 11,000! Lowest attendance was over 3,000 Right now, Indy is averaging almost as many people as DC United. They are averaging MORE than Chivas USA. I know Buck Shaw only holds 10,525, but they are averaging more than SJ Quakes! Even though people seem disappointed by the Cosmos first game, it's over 1,000 more than their season average last year. And compare that to USL-Pro. They already have (4) teams averaging 1,000 or less. Biggest crowd so far is only 5,000
To be fair once Orlando City moves to MLS the USL Pro won't be able to "hang their hat" on you guys for attendance or use you in their snazzy promo videos... At least not any new videos. Still, you have a point... Once we get all the teams to play a home stand we should have a more well-rounded average.
Are you sure? This is what Peter Wilt posted on here. This was posted awhile ago, so plans may have changed.
"Not bad"?! With the exception of Ft. Lauderdale, that's a freaking monumental opener. Has a DII league _ever_ averaged 7K before, or with so few outliers?
7k average for the first game of the season is damn good, nothing to be ashamed of there. I know people were trumping up Cosmos last year and sad they ddin't average more fans but, if you ask me anything above 5k for D2 in the usa is amazing.
This shows the steadily growth of NASL cause they've increased attenance numbers every single year. Of course a lot has to do with the buzz from new teams like Indy Eleven this season. Any ideas why the Strikers had only 3000? They avaraged 4.200 last season and usually an Openening Night draws more. Bad weather or something?
From the sound of it, a complete lack of any promotion for the game, and a lack of enthusiasm from the local soccer community because of the Beckham announcement. At the end of the day, bad weather or no, Beckham or no, they don't have anybody to pin their attendance woes on but themselves.
