They could have, but they didn't and as the home team that is their choice, and as has been pointed out, perhaps they are switching things up without telling anyone. Plus what about when the Rapids play at New England or at Philly? It will be the same thing. It isn't a huge deal, it just made me wonder what the protocol is on this because for each of those opponents for the Rapids, you throw some white socks on the kit and to me it just makes the contrast between the teams a bit more noticeable. I just don't know who to blame for this not happening.
Well, I was going to add "but that's not saying much." then changed my mind as I felt somethings are best left unsaid. I see you and I disagree.
This is the face that ruined the jersey. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...ed=0CDwQhBwwAA&iact=rc&page=1&start=0&ndsp=15
Grrr, they rejected my submission of a plain white t-shirt with "Pitor Nowak is an asshole" written on the front. If I'd submitted the same shirt in red with a white stripe on the chest, Fire fans probably would have still voted for it over the current kits though.
You know, Nike kicked if off this trend but all the big uniform suppliers seem to be getting into the act. UnderArmor has been supplying a number of bizarre uniforms for the Maryland football team. Since Phil Knight started bestowing his love on the Univ. of Oregon football team, you'd never necessary have to know that Oregon's colors are green & yellow. This latest Adidas-created Chicago Fire monstrosity of a third jersey is just the latest example of this unfortunate trend. And, this year's new Chicago Fire home uniform (which had to have been approved by the Fire's front office) is a pretty good example that putting out a new Adidas product trumps what had been a nice traditional Fire look of a red home jersey with either a big white or blue band across the front. The ugly rocket pop uniform that Nike designed for this summer's World Cup isn't really all that much of an aberration. It's just what Nike does.
Some guy ranked all 29 "pro" sports teams in Chicago based on jersey (or sometimes logo). He put the Fire at #6 and has high praise for the kit. Thought I would post this so the Fire faithful can tell him how wrong he is. http://dawindycity.com/2014/04/17/ranking-chicago-sports-uniforms/9/
New Whitecaps 3rd kit? Did somebody say throwback? #Since74 pic.twitter.com/kIJbfvBIUs— Vancouver Whitecaps FC (@WhitecapsFC) April 21, 2014
I am frowning as hard as I can in the direction of Seattle here. WTF, gang. (And congrats, Vancouver.)
No kidding. The ownership continues to go against what the fans constantly say we want. A throwback kit would be a moneymaker for them.
On the other hand, Seattle can't keep its current authentic kits in stock anyway, so why bother? (I have given up trying to get an authentic shale kit in size L after trying for the past 2 seasons. Adidas does one run, apparently - it sells out and we're done for the year.) They have plenty of time to churn out Jar-Jar Bullsh** like this though - guess the margins must be better than kits: http://proshop.soundersfc.com/Seatt...unders_FC_Dred_Knit_Ski_Hat_-_Green_Navy_Blue
Some might find this interesting. http://soccerblog.dallasnews.com/2014/04/about-wearing-away-jerseys-at-home.html/
Here is the full Whitecaps retro jersey. Looks sharp. http://www.whitecapsfcshop.com/enla...ary-retro-long-sleeve-jersey-white-red-26.jpg
I don't think they're actually wearing these. Pretty sure they're just part of a fashion line the team is launching.
And you would think neon green and yellow were far enough apart to tell the difference, but yet, the Sounders and Crew wear their alternates when they play each other. That being said, the red does darken up quite a bit when it gets wet. Probably not enough to confuse red and black though.
