The 2014 All-Star game date, location, and opponent announced. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...onent-2014-att-mls-all-star-game-portlands-je Wednesday, August 6, 2014 Jeld-Wen Stadium Portland, OR MLS v. Bayern Munich This is the first All-Star game in Portland history for one of the major U.S. leagues. Prior All-Star opponents: 2003 - Guadalajara 2005 - Fulham 2006 - Chelsea 2007 - Celtic 2008 - West Ham United 2009 - Everton 2010 - Manchester United 2011 - Manchester United 2012 - AS Roma
Fifth different league opponent in ten years. Glad they are keeping the variety. Bayern Munich is going to be tough to beat.
I understand making money at Reliant or in NYC, but Bayern in Portland??? Is this an Adidas deal or does mls just think of it as a ratings thing and eat a loss?
It's the league's showcase event. Now that MLS Cup has home field advantage, the All-Star Game is the Don's chance to wine and dine sponsors, placate owners, etc.
Tickets went on sale last week and are gone now. Anyone have any outside the box thoughts into getting tickets and not having to pay an arm and a leg?
That's going to be tough. Between the pre-sale, the Timbers season ticket holders, and the public sale I can't imagine that there are many tickets left. Get a job with, or even better become a big customer of,one of the sponsors?
So looks like the wife and i are going to make the trip to Portland to for the All Star game then to Seattle to watch the Dynamo. So I need tips on what to do in Seattle. Where to stay? What is the public transport like? What about tickets? Will there be Dynamo in a concentrated area?
I went a few years ago with wifey and another couple. We had a blast. We got field level tix-which is actually a bargain if you have 4 people and like to drink and eat fancy food. Not sure if they still sell those type of tickets. We stayed in a vacation home Whidbey Island just to get out of the city. We did some whale watching (Island Adventures out of Anacortes) and went to Deception Pass. then we went onto the mainland for a few days-hit the museum of flight. Pretty cool-but you should block about 2 hours for it. Of course you'll want to hit Pike's Market. The aquarium is worth seeing too. Try to take a ferry to Victoria if you can. Make sure to hit an Ivar's and eat some seafood. Lots' of cool stuff to do in that city. But the I-5 traffic is horrible. I like that city-almost transferred to Whidbey Island a few years ago. The view of the Olympics can be intoxicating. But Rave Green didn't agree with me.
It is a very beautiful area. I-5 is stupid, mother********ing-left-********ing-lane-goddamned-campers. As a life-long Houstonian, one summer (2012) spent working in North Puget Sound has ruined me heatwise. It never got above 75 through July-August. Last year I was miserable here and I've never had that problem.
there's a real convenient hotel, Silver Cloud, thats a half a block from the stadium entrance. btw, grow some really scale-ly, godzilla-like, thick skin from now to then. Sounder fan is a special kind of a**ho.
Thanks guys. We wont have a car, what is the public transit like? Which areas of town are most connected?
So I guess no Dynamo made it? I heard from a friend that the couldnt find Davis on the list to vote for him. I didnt get a chance to look.
World Cup veteran Brad Davis, one of the most technical players in the league, who is very entertaining while on the ball, and always dangerous is excluded for once. This list is flawed.
He'll be named to the squad for bonus purposes. They name I think a 17-18 person squad for each conference for bonus purposes even though less than half get to play in the game. A relic of a prior era.
A relic from the East v West days. I assume it's still in the CBA and won't be going anywhere next year.
Half the teams in the league don't have a player on the All Star team. POR, SKC, RSL, LA, NY, TOR, and SEA are all the craze these days.
My personal biased opinion is that Barnes is putting very strong performances. I remember when people used to give Barnes a hard time, saying he was getting a free pass while Bruin was getting all the bad comments. But Barnes is showing why he once was considered a promising young player. I wouldn't expect anybody in MLS to want to see Barnes play in the All Star game, though.
