I can honestly say a mix of both, but I do personally believe the former plays more into that than the latter.
Here's the best confirmation on the new FCD home jersey to date... Note the MLS Jersey Week ad, upper right. as predicted, darker red stripes on red.
The best improvement would be to go back to the old red shirts and black shorts that we had back in the day. I'll grudgingly concede that the name "FC Dallas" is a marginal improvement over "Dallas Burn," and I'll gladly concede that the current crest is FAR better than the old fire-belching horse, but the current color scheme is FAR WORSE than the Burn's color scheme was.
while i dont disagree and loved the old color scheme too, the current is more flag-aligned (dallas and tx) so may carry some more meaning than the cool but somewhat arbitrary burn colors...
Seeing other uniforms that will be unveiled I think they are all under a filter than renders the white closer to the darker color. I will be surprised now if the new uniform is not a variation on the red stripes and Peter's head will explode.
And here is the best guess to date, knowing what we know. Full credit to Dan Crooke (@Crooke86) for this "artist rendering"
White or blue shorts, please. Not crazy about all red (that's coming from a Liverpool supporter, too) because it'd be too close to Toronto.
You guys actually like this? Now you are just another red team and those stripes are completely pointless. You guys were instantly recognizable within the league, not anymore.
Not me. It's a slight improvement, like I said above, but it's not good. One of the worst things about it is that it makes the multi-level marketing scheme we've allowed to befoul our shirt stand out even more.
I'll repeat this here. I too want black, but that ain't happening because it is not part of the club's official color scheme and style guide. But what I am rooting for is a FO that is willing to be brave and flexible enough to make game day decisions on the color of the shorts and socks based on what the opponent is rolling out. Personally I think white short/red socks should be the default, but the team should be willing to go all red, or red shorts/white socks if that alleviates color conflicts. Or hell, I'd love to see a one off red jersey, blue shorts, white socks roll out.
I know, I know. However, the color scheme was the part of the branding that LEAST needed changing back in 2005, so I'd personally like to see a return to it, even if that's dreaming the impossible dream.
If they really do this change I expect sales of jerseys to skyrocket since the horizontal stripes were what was holding them back.
I think you guys fail to realize how many youth jerseys this club sells per season... I've heard from many a parent they don't like paying for essentially the same jersey year after year with minor changes... now they can't complain about that.
They only have to buy one every year if they change teams every year which means it would be different. If they stay at the same club it's every other year just like the pros. Every team is pretty much the same after the change anyway.
Bring back the olive and black pin stripes on white. You could almost wear that uni to a job interview.
Ha, just saw on Black and Red United they critiqued all the new jerseys and are calling this one the bar code jersey and wondering if it is actually able to be scanned.
The good news is that San Jose's crest is still the worst redesign of the offseason. And they'll be stuck with it longer than we're stuck with these jerseys.
