Well actually, i would say that the man that led them to qualfying for WC 2010 was better than their coach that led them in South Africa :)

    So true so true...

Although the back formation for Cote d'Ivoire vs Senegal was sort of an enigma. The starting XI featured Aurier (a RB), Bamba, Toure and Zokora. Honestly I never really came to decipher what decision either of these position were playing and who the hell was the nominal LB...

If Toure was playing RB (according to Catracho), then what the hell position did Aurier play? Honestly the back four were such a mess tactically that I had no idea (or maybe this was some sort of genius variation of total football ;) ).

Aurier was playing LB and Kolo RB in the 2nd half...

lmaoooo I was watching Kolo run up and down the wing.. thinking.. wow, I'm surprised he can still keep-up.

Upset that Ethiopia did not make it however they faced a superior team, got so close to qualifying and even got a major New York Times article on them. I will always believe that disallowed goal was a goal but that is neither here nor there. Now I root for all CAF teams and I hope we can put in a better performance then in SA. Ghana is our best hope, hope CIV doesn't get another group of death.

ohhhh poooor baby! did Algeria making it to the world cup hurt you so bad?......

-When Algeria plays, dont watch the game.
    - This is Algeria's 4th appearance in a world cup
    - What is an automatic red card?
    - Thats Madjid Bougherra.....And that my friend is scottish football, and in Africa, you win some and you lose some........the ref did just that......make up for the "phantom penalty" as you referred to it.

This Algerian team that "doesnt make you want to watch them" beat both Egypt (Best African team in the past 10 years) and Zambia (2012 African cup winners) to make it to the 2010 World cup.....

Then, Algeria, went on to beat Mali in the group stage, Third place playoff winners of the 2013 African cup......and beat Burkina faso, the 2013 African cup finalists in a home-and-away tie, to make it to the 2014 world cup (remember, when algeria plays, DO NOT WATCH)

Would you like Brazil, Germany and Spain to be added to the next african world cup qualifier? be in the same group as Algeria, and then see Algeria finish first and make it to the next world cup?......

Will that make you want to watch Algeria?

You talk like the other teams are in a class of their own.....a part from Ghana, Africa aint sh*t.....just like asia, and north america......

some people are jealous to see us in world cup and some are only ignorant. i think this guy is both.
he said that we are in world cup thanks to the referee who didn't sent off "one or maybe two players" with "automatic red card". :D

hey guy. we won our group stage with 15 points. we eliminate mali. we are 3rd african nation in fifa ranking.

"There is nothing at all in the way that Algeria played the last two legs that makes me want to watch them play (unlike i.e. Morocco or Egypt)"... really ? take 6 goals in the first leg and being eliminated in the group stage make you want to watch ? :D:D:D:D ridiculous

Algeria is the worse African team entering the World Cup in regards to talent and form.

Repeat of South Africa.. 3 and out. enjoy.

    You're welcome.

Cameroon? Better players. More potential. Qualified with flying colours. Nah... They're not the worst CAF team at the World Cup.

But hope Algeria proves everyone wrong.

    best players : gk+chedjou+nkoulou+song+eto'o. yes.
more potential : if they stop their clan conflicts maybe they could have a potential.
qualified with flying colours ? its a joke ? you think the qualifers is only the second leg match of direct confrontation ?
cameroun won their group stage in a difficult way (5 goals in 6 matchs, loss against togo then won the match in a silver platter...). then do a boring 0-0 with tunisia and do a good match at home.
we won our group with 15 points, 13 goals in 6 matchs, we sent off mali (semi finalist of the acn), then we beat burkina (finalist of the acn)

the only think is that they have well known players and famous history. but their results are terrible and their game is boring.

With flying colours I meant the playoffs. Why? Because Volker Finke is a new coach and can't really attribute many the results of the team in the group phase to him. As for a boring Tunisia game. Yes, it was boring. But it was also tactically perfect from Cameroon. Cameroon played for a 0:0 draw and got a 0:0 draw. So basically they got the result they planned. What else can you expect? Shows tactical maturity of the team and the coach, which is good for a group phased tournament. Finke was hired less than a month prior to the June games, so the defeat and draw are largely not his fault, as he was just an observer and advisor for the first two games. Since then he's had 2 wins and a calculated draw.

Algeria did beat Burkina Faso (a very good team BTW), but on away goals through a very fortutious goal. Given the individual strength of Cameroon, their World Cup history and how easily they won their tie, its only natural that people will expect more from them than from Algeria.

for the players, im agree. cameroon git great players.

but no. im sorry. the qualification is not only the playoffs. and not only the second leg of the playoff.

they did poor performance in group phase. new coach or not, the fact i they did poor performance.
and you justify the boring 0-0 by 'it was their strategy'.
you justify the cameroon 'sstrnght' by it's players, and you justify the poor performances by the coach.... not logic.
the 'great players' were here with the former coach isn't it ?

algeria, accept it or not, win their group phase with 'flying colors' against acn semi finalist.
and with burkina, the objective was to win 1-0 at home. they did it. what you want more ? you want them play risky just to look strong ? why you don't talk about 'tactical maturity' ?

result, 6 group match +2 play off :
    cameroun : 4 win, 2 nul, 1 loss + 1 win on a silver platter after losing 2-0
    algeria : 6 win, 2 loss
and you say that they 'win with a flying colors'

we score a total of 16 goals, cameroun score a total of 12 goals and you say that algeria is the team with a boring game style that 'make nothing that make you want to watch'

cameroon is the greatest team in african history and have, today, great players. as an african, i'm sincerly glad to see them in wc.
but tell that they are a better team than algetia or that thy did a better qualification campaign because they score 4 to 11 zombie tunisian... its a lie.

They played 3 games with the new coach. 2 wins and a calculated draw.

Yeah, I'm sure Tunisia planned on a 0:0 draw at home. :) Cameroon closed them down completely and even had more scoring opportunities. They evidently closed shop and did it masterfully.

Aieeeeeeeeeeeeee Zahzah et l’Algérien! Laissez le Cameroun en paix! Why are y'all banging on Les Lions :p
On a serious note, Jemeldz, why are u trying to compare Cameroon to Algeria? We are heading into a WC here, not an AFCON! Shouldn't we all be on the same page? I would love to see all CAF teams qualify from their groups & I will be cheering them all (strange for me, coz in the past I usually haven't--- I suppose I am older & wiser :p )
Any ways, let us save the rivalry for AFCON 2015! It is not too far away.

Well said. All CAF teams have something to prove, not only Algeria and Cameroon. I want to see all five teams in the knockouts. That would be idea. Despite my misgivings about Algeria, they have some good players and a manageable group. I still think that Egypt has better players but Algeria isn't bad. Best of luck.

    its just a misunderstanding.
i have nothing against cameroon. i respect them as the greatest nation in africa, i support them and sincerly wish them to go far and make our continent proud.

but i read things like ''algeria is lucky to be qualified with the away goal rule", "algeria is the weakest african nation in world cup", "algeria did poor qualification campaign", "burkina faso was, by far, the weakest opponent in knockout matchs..."
i just answer to all that cases.

I think Algeria is getting judged a little harsh in here. Playing against Algeria is always difficult and they usually do not lose by more then a single goal. They have players that can do well at the world stage, but IMO they don't seem to be playing that well together which makes the team more dependent on individual performances for goals rather then team play. Usually when i watch Algeria they're either very good or extremely bad.
They're inconsistent which means that if Halilhodzic can get the best out of the team then be ready for surprises at the WC ;) But they could also be as disappointing as the last WC and contribute nothing and not even manage a single goal :p Either way lets hope for the best and i personally think they will surprise, especially with a better coach in charge this time!

That was a GOAL! That call changed the entire tenor of the game and that was the difference of punching a ticket to brazil. Upsetting for me as an Ethiopian but that is water under the bridge now.

Ghana squad for today - pretty strong line-up, albeit quite experimental (no Gyan, Dauda, Andre Ayew, Asamoah):

Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Opare, David Addy, Jerry Akaminko, John Boye, Michael Essien, Christian Atsu, Agyemang Badu, Majeed Waris, Jordan Ayew Mubarak Wakaso.

Subs: Stephen Adams, Asamoah Gyan, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Sulley Muntari, Samuel Inkoom, Jonathan Mensah, Albert Adomah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Andre Ayew

    My comments:
    1. Adam Kwarasey and Stephen Adams will likely get a half each. We'll see if they'll have their work cut out.
    2. David Addy looks guaranteed to get 90 minutes of playing time. Good - this is his slot to win!
    3. Appiah is testing highly rated Jerry Akaminko with the proven quality of John Boye. With Vorsah out and Mensah with unproven form this could yet be the back two.
    4. Michael Essien and Agyeman Badu will likely be the pivot duo. This is likely Appiah's preferred option.
    5. Majeed Waris will likely stay in the hole (unless Atsu displaces him), but both wingers and the striker is an experiment with likely backup players. Mubarak Wakaso is a freekick specialist. Christian Atsu is proving to be a great creative midfielder at Vitesse. While Jordan Ayew.... is Jordan Ayew. Will he ever fulfill his promise?
