Messi got picked by everyone because he is Messi but he wasn't the best player. Messi at Barca >>>>>>> Messi for Argentina

He's definitely improved with Argentina. He's clearly their best player now and was one of the best in the qualifiers.

But Suarez has been the best. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Suarez was put in situations where he had to "save" Uruguay time and time again, while Argentina has pretty much been on cruise control so Messi hasn't had to pull any heroics.

For the WCQ 14, Messi's numbers are more impressive as he played as playmaker for Argentina while Suarez was the main striker for Uruguay.

Do you have a link to the stats? Argentina as a team scored ten more goals than Uruguay, which gives a rough indication of their respective playmakers.
