I know nothing about this Guyana side. But i think we could get away using this game as another experimental squad. Nothing too drastic but a good change from the starters in the Brazil game. Id like to see Jimenez start for Meza for one, maybe Reyna for Barrera.
I would rather we start experimenting once the qualification for the next round has been secured. There is no point in playing 3 warm-up games to get guys used to playing with each other again only to completely change the line-up for the real thing. Get the three points here, at least 1 in El Salvador, and then regroup later this summer.
exactly, get 4-6 points from these 2 games. then you have CR back to back games in September. get another 4-6 points from those 2 games for 8-12 pts total. then maybe you can experiment the last 2 games in Oct. with younger players.
I'm with you. You'd have to be out of your mind to continue to experiment more at this point. I think Chepo is set on what he's going to use.
Guyana's last two friendlies were a 1-0 loss against Jamaica on May 18th, and a 7-1 loss against Colombia on May 28th. Seems like most of the team plays in Caribbean leagues, mainly in Guyana and Trinidad. A handful in the English lower divisions.
Guyana game should be no problem at all. The El Salvador game however can be tricky They had us 0-0 at halftime in the gold cup but it ended up 5-0 The only game I could possibly see us struggle in is the game in Sept at Costa Rica.
It does not look like Rodolfo Zelaya will be playing for the Salvies, as he has yet to fully recover from a knee injury. He is also playing in Russia (brrr) for a newly promoted club. Too bad for ES. I really enjoyed watching him in last year's Gold Cup.
The Guyana game is very dangerous....not necessarily because they are good, but Caribbean teams tend to take very risky tackles and foul hard. We need to get our goals in quick and try not to take any injury risks. Gio and Guardado need to get subbed asap the second we have the game on lock.
I for one, say fack the experimenting at this point. Leave that shit for the friendlies. I want to see all of our starters getting more and more time to gel and prove themselves. I expect the Guyana game to be an easy win, but I hope they aren't too rough on the tackles. I know historically it has been a difficult trip to El Salvador, but I honestly don't see it as complicated for this squad. Their mentality under Chepo has changed alot, and for once we have a great squad with lots of depth. I don't like the whole settling for a facking tie mentality, luckily I don't think our players share that mentality. We will strive for the 6 points and that's what we shall get.
vs Guyana: Aldo De Nigris, Peralta Angel Reyna, Jesus Molina, Jesus Zavala, Barrera Salcido, Hugo Ayala, Maza, Jimenez Talavera
------------memo------------ meza----ayala----moreno----nilo ---------zavala-----lugo----------- gio-------reyna---------guardado ----------hernandez-------------- go in for the kill
sorry but i gotta disagree with this lineup. besides, Peralta is not even with the team. we gotta start off strong. keep the lineup similar to how they were the past 2-3 games. 2nd half definitely take out guys like Gio, Chicharito, Zavala, etc. to avoid injury & fatigue. we'll need them in our away game against the Salvatruchas 5 days later.
Exactly, the plan should be to get an early and comfortable lead and keep our powder dry for the game in El Salvador. I honestly think we should scratch a DMID and put in an offensive player in the lineup since Guyana will problem bunker.
I think the point that we can't experiment anymore versus Guyana has been hammered home. Something else though that hasn't been mentioned that justifies a very serious approach to this game, is goal differential. We should relentlessly run up the score and that's much easier without an experimental group. Don't forget in the last cycle we only barely scraped by on goal differential. We were tied in 2nd place in points with Jamaica. It shouldn't come to that again and I don't expect it to for multiple reasons, but the lesson I took away from the last qualifiers is not to take the scoreboard at the end of the game for granted anymore.
It's crazy how the qualifiers are already here, it took ages of wait and its in 2 days Go in for the kill in all these games is what I expect. BUT, don't ever take none of the teams for granted, seeing as they don't really have nothing to lose. Although, hungry for a ticket to go on. Seeing as MEXICO is the favorites, the pressure is on us. We'll overcome it for sure. Should be a solid win on FRIDAY.
