Best Manager: Lee Chang-won MVP: Kim Dong-hyun Best Defense: Lee Sang-gi Best GK: Kim Roman Top Scorer: Hwang Hee-chan (5 goals) K League Junior starts on March 17.
Is there any particular reason why Sangju bothers having a youth setup? Or is it a requirement to be in the K-League?
Does U-league belong here? I thought there was going to be another thread. Anyways, KU wins 춘계연맹전 - their first in 3 years. Im Seung-kyum started. Kim Gun-hee won top scorer with 5 goals. Already getting the Park Chu-young comparisons http://sports.media.daum.net/sports/soccer/newsview?newsId=20140321153306517 If he betrays Suwon for Seou.... that would be fun to watch.
Pocheol is taking part in Al Ain U-17 tournament in Group B with UAE U-17 and Man City. They play Man City U-17 tonight. Its a shame its an U-17 tournament else Hwang Hee-chan would have featured. Never-the-less Lee Chang-won hopes the team will play its usual football against the big Man City boys. http://www.steelers.co.kr/news/inside_view.asp?seq=445&page=1 + Man City forum on the tournament: http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=299928&sid=658c305b183f88ae14f7222055fe3dee
For what its worth...Pohang beat Man City. Good boys. Photo from: https://twitter.com/william_hannah/status/455441659723915264/photo/1 Mcfc 1 pohang steelers 2 ft— MCFCReserves&Academy (@MCFC_EDS_ACAD) April 13, 2014
i'd like to see pohang against kashiwa reysol in the semis or finals but i'm skeptical/cynical about that happening.. and of course the tourney's shitty site confused the two asian clubs. http://alainift.com/en/Default.aspx
Not to nitpick and idk how flexible youth setups are but isn't this a slightly younger U16 Man City side?
Our K League youth works like this - Each clubs have U-12's: 초등학생 U-15's: 중학생 U-18's: 고등학생 The Pohang team from yesterday are mostly 고2's or 고1's. But most of these kids actually dont get much playing time because usually with most U-18's teams, their starting XI is dominated by 고3's. Man City I think they played with mostly U-16's and probably not as full strength (seems quite near-full strength though) but 16 or 17 its pretty much the same for me. The Pohang kids are also non-starters as well because as I said 고'3 take most of the spot - until they graduate and then the 고2's take most of the spot and so on in a cycle. Pohang U-18's are always strong though. Lee Chang-won is just Hwang Sun-hong in K League Junior.
Yeah I don't doubt the quality of the best Korean youth teams at all. I think one advantage is that the talent is much more centralized in Korea with top players at the K-League clubs + some independent schools, whereas other places there are many teams' academies you have to sift through for the best players, especially with the younger kids.
