It is that time of the year when conference realignment starts. I will try and keep this updated. Schools in Bold have moved or created a program. I know there will be more movements. Just let me know.

Navy is going to the American in football only. They will remain in the Patriot for every other sport, including soccer.

Just a head's up. Sun Belt Conference is going to add men's soccer. Voted 11 in favor and 3 abstained votes a few months ago. The conference is currently taking applications to add 3-4 affiliates to add to GA State, GA Southern and Appalachian State to get them to 6 or 7 to have an automatic bid. Should know in early January who is joining

    Thanks for all that work.

This elucidates the point that the minimum for auto bid needs to be raised. Where is it now? 6? 7?

    Raise it to 8 minimum.

We have already learned elsewhere that New Mexico State is adding MSOC. Add them to the Sun Belt schools who already field WSOC and you have this list. (I suppose it is possible that abstaining votes will field a team anyway, increasing the list even further.) Like to see it!

    1. UALR
    2. Arkansas State
    3. Georgia State
    4. UL-Lafayette
    5. UL-Monroe
    6. South Alabama
    7. UT Arlington
    8. Texas State
    9. Troy
    10. Western Kentucky
    11. New Mexico State

Please correct me once this list is published. In particular, I really would like to see UALR add MSOC.

I had not heard this. I would be Belmont, Howard, Incarnate Word (if they do not go to the WAC) and NJIT have/will find a new home.

NMSU is in the WAC. They have said that they are considering Mens soccer, but no announcement yet. They will be in the Sun Belt for football only. I would also not assume that because the conference added men's soccer as a sport, that all teams will now field a team. I would be very surprised to see this happen, I would love it, but it would surprise me.

I would be that the Sun Belt is as follows:
    GA Southern
    GA State
    App State
    Howard
    Belmont
    NJIT
Incarnate Word and maybe one more.

We have established that New Mexico State is adding MSOC. Right?

According to Sun Belt Conference official website, New Mexico State is joining in 2014. Right?

New Mexico State is therefore obligated to play MSOC in the Sun Belt Conference. Right?

This type of "outside agency" making recommendations will almost certainly lead to a jump. I am guessing it will be done fairly soon.

Meanwhile, Temple today just cut 7 sports (not Men Soccer)
    http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=9351556

and Robert Morris did likewise (again men soccer was spared)
    http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/12/03/rmu-cuts-7-varsity-sports-says-funding-spread-too-thin/

All in all we should be counting or blessings that we are talking of expansions for our beloved sport!!

As an NMSU alum, I am well aware of this. NMSU is only joining for American Football. They want to join for all sports, but have been turned down. In addition to this, the AD has mentioned that NMSU might add Men's Soccer in the future, there has been no timetable for this, or even if it will happen. I would love to see it happen. If they did get an all sports invite to the Sun Belt, yes they would play all sports in the Sun Belt, but as it stands, it is American Football only.

Nice to see that both schools kept men's soccer. Interesting to see that both AD's used the term "Right-sizing". I think that we will see more of this.

UALR used to have soccer and dropped it in the late 80's. Stetson Head Coach Logan Fleck was the coach there at one time. As did South Alabama and Western Kentucky.

I liked the UTPA name and think they should have kept it. The school is so close to the Mexican border and as a gateway between the two countries, "Pan American" represents this well.

But they were determined to get a name change. One of the early options was UTLA (Las Americas). That would have been my preferred choice.

As part of the agreement to join the WAC, then UTPA agreed to start a men's soccer program. With the union with UT-B (which had a D-III program). I would assume that they will continue to work towards launching their program in 2015.

The Rio Grande Valley has huge potential as a soccer area and a program that can get good players from there can do very well.

It reminds me of the effort to get the Rio Grand Valley residents registered to vote and to the polls - it can be a game-changer politically.

Of course, theorizing about it and actually getting it done, be it in soccer or voting, are two different things.
