So yup it is that time of the year again, thank god. The home opener is finally this weekend and the Union look to start strong at home, especially at the attendance level. Anybody have a prediction for Saturday??, it seems like there should be a sellout and I think we should get there with the good weather. (Crosses everything?) Link to last year's thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/2013-attendance-thread.1983524/ Thanks for supporting my attendance fetish. Go Union!
I don't think people are really in the "outdoor sports" mindset yet. So I won't be surprised if the game isn't a sellout. That, and I haven't seen much advertising. I'll say 17,862. Are we using Price is Right rules?
Yeah, I'm thinking a sell out for this one. Maybe empty seats from some no-shows, but we all know that's not how they measure things. Seems like the corners are the only thing still available. With that kind of forecast, people will come out.
Agreed. Folks will see the forecast, realize the Union are the "only game in town" as it were, and maybe venture out to snag some gameday tickets. You gotta think the recent bit of PR - Edu/MacMath at Jamba Juice, Edu/MacMath/Gaddis/etc at Jim's Steaks, Hopp/Jimmy Mac on CBS3 this morning - will get the team fresh in people's minds.
And I'll take 2 fans. Only four people on contestants row, sorry everyone else. Woo! I"m gonna win!!!
It'll be a "PPL sellout". Announced crowd of over 18,500, but only about 15k butts in seats at kickoff; even during the game there are a few suspiciously empty rows.
i will go in slightly early. (walking in around 340) to do the beers, yell last name thing, anthem. i only do that on special occasions. looks like the river end corners are the only sections with more than "low" availability based on the map. and those are only medium.
Bleh, I tailgate hard, am a proud member of an organization named after an alcoholic beverage and I'm always in early.
At least they specified it was a "Paid" Sell Out today. Mostly full, but in the corners some missing seats.
They always say paid attendance so it wasn't new. I can't speak for Europe but the other major sports leagues here use the 'Paid' attendance as the figure instead of gate counts. Haven't watched the Sixers but I would guess their numbers this year are much easier to tell. Heck, the Union have had a few games played in bad weather that the number announced wasn't even close (Monsoon game vs Seattle comes to mind as well as the freezing rain game last year, Chivas?).
FWIW, I was talking to a guy on the way in who is in the military. He said that he subscribes to a website that provides free or discounted tickets to active military and veterans. He had three seats in Section 126, Row AA. He said that he bought them the day before the game for $10 each. He and his daughter seemed very excited to go to their first game. Those three people are included in the "paid attendance" number.
