Patience, Grasshopper. The camp will have been good for him. And lots of players do not make the 18 right away.
I think Gatt would have had an advantage over Franklin, even if the left wing is not his natural spot.
Omar certainly didn't do anything to hurt his stock. He played pretty damn good considering. I think he can book his ticket to Honduras for sure. That match was really hard to watch though. You know it's bad when Beckerman is our best player on the night. Good lord. We saw a lot of players who will not be getting called back. Not even for the Gold Cup. I tuned out all the Donovan talk. We will continue to hear it until he is ready to earn his place back in the team. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Boring, uninspiring game. Sad when we not only can't score against Canada, we never even tested the keeper. This team had no ability to create dangerous opportunities. Showed how important players like Landon and Dempsey are to this team because they are about the only players we have who can create goal scoring opportunities for us with some regularity. In this game our most dangerous attempt was Omar's header than went about a foot over the crossbar because it had beaten the keeper. Speaking of Omar - he had a solid game overall and improved his stock IMO. Johnson played like Altidore does - very static, doesn't anticipate the play, no deception or creativity in his game. The give and go started by Wondo's 1 touch flick on is the kind of stuff we need to see from our forwards, not just passively receiving the ball and then trying to figure out what the hell to do. Pulling Wondo at half showed that Klinnsman doesn't really rate him. Unfortunate because I think the 2nd half he might have bagged a goal as we got the ball behind Canada more frequently. Beltran was worthless in attack. Tried same moves repeatedly, failed repeatedly. AJ would have been better at both ends of the field. Morrow was pretty bad too, turning the ball over a lot. Unlike some others I thought Brad Davis had a good game. Evans not so much. Feilhaber showed his usual weaknesses - creative but way too slow with the ball at his feet, too easily dispossessed. We will be a different and clearly better team when the European based players are added but I think we may still be lucky to get more than 3 points total in our 1st three games. Especially if LD doesn't join the squad during this period. Crossing my fingers.
Omar would cancel out Omar and LA would own that team. The midfield was not able to get anything forward and when the ball did get there the forwards couldn't combine worth a crap to create any kind of a serious threat on the Canadian goal. Their was to much holding on to the ball and not nearly enough 1-2 passing out their. Omar did good but he didnt have a Juninho or Beckham or LD to swing in a cross to his head. Thank God this game wasn't against Mexico. The German's job would be in question after that potential beat down.
Backing up my assertion: 2012 MLS Cup Winners LA Galaxy vs. 2013 Camp Cupcake USMNT Saunders vs. Johnson - Advantage - USMNT Franklin vs. Beltran - Advantage - Galaxy Gonzilla vs. Gonzilla - Advantage - Push (they both destroy all!!) AJ vs. Besler - Advantage - USMNT Dunivant vs. Morrow - Advantage - Push (experience and wiles vs. youth and speed) Zusi vs. Wilhemsson - Advantage - USMNT Juninho vs. Beckerman - Advantage - Galaxy Beckham vs. Evans - Advantage - Galaxy Donovan vs. Johnson - Advantage - Galaxy Keane vs. Wondolowski - Advantage - Galaxy So my entirely unbiased empirical analysis is that we'd beat 'em like an old metal drum... Now the full European-based USMNT vs. the Galaxy might be a fair fight....
Why do I have to mention the obvious? I mean, I didn't want to risk the Highlander's wrath by even mentioning his name in the same sentence as Brad Davis'... But at the risk of his wrath and to make it complete--- Magee vs. Davis - Advantage: Duh.
Watching the forwards in this game really gives an appreciation for Keane. When the forwards didn't give the ball up right away, they didn't have any clue what to do with it. Johnson looked especially awful IMHO.
Nothing to add to what you guys have said, so why bother. Also, Omar tweeted that he is heading back to LA with AJ. Hopefully he is there to pick up some clothes on the way to Honduras. Or else I am going to be pissed. Count me among those who is rapidly losing confidence with JK. Too much talk, too many head-scratching decisions, and too much arrogance. Put up or shut up. No one expects you to be Barcelona, but we do expect you to realize the guy you played at CAM, who you later played at FULLBACK, wasn't going to cut open Canada.
So anyone know when the squad for the first Hex game against Honduras (next Wed.) will be announced? I feel like it should be soon...very soon. Hope Omar is on there!
Supposedly after the weekend to check for injuries to European players. Found out from a reporter in the Nats thread that players were allowed to go back home for a couple of days, so Omar going back (and looking very smiley!) means nothing. Phew.
As of Friday morning Omar hadn't heard yet? Ugh: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...mpressive-us-camp-gonzalez-plays-waiting-game If he's not called in there will be a BS meltdown. Guaranteed.
Well, Matt Besler apparently called in (from a photo of him in flight with Kim Kardashian of all people, Wahl confirmed), and Brad Davis was flying (Wahl confirmed)...and yet...Omar's twitter... If Besler was called in and not Gonzo, I'm going to have a meltdown. Hell, if Brad Evans is on that roster (as rumored) and Gonzo is not there, I'm going nuclear on JK.
