People we need to bring in, or at least have a serious look at: Henley, Brooks, Salgado, Yedlin, McBean
A conceivable starting lineup: ---------Salgado Joya------Gil---------Villareal --------Trapp--Stanko Ocegueda-Brooks-Zimmerman-Yedlin -------------Cropper I'd love to add Henley, but I feel like it's much less likely than Brooks who I'd personally put in at probable.
Before I mention anything about the roster, just saw who we'll be joining (so far) in Turkey. The big shock? No Brazil OR Argentina from CONMEBOL!
CF - Salgado? LW - Cuevas RW - Villareal CAM - Gil LCM/LDM - ??? RCM/RDM - Stanko LB - Ocegueda LCB - Brooks (if he commits) RCB - Zimmerman RB - Henley (if he files one time switch) GK - Cropper (even though I don't think he's very good)
Should John Anthony Brooks play for the 20s or in the Gold Cup? Will Blackburn's Adam Henley switch to play for the US? What about Shawn Parker? Will Walker Zimmerman and Omar Salgado get healthy in time to get fit and be ready? Will MLS players like DeAndre Yedlin, Jack McBean and Oscar Sorto show enough to get looks from Tab? Please add other questions and your thoughts to the queries posted above.
It doesn't matter. The cutoff date for players to play in the tournament this year is January 1, 1993.
This is definitely one of the more important questions, as it's quite obvious that Tab ranks Okwuonu highly at RB (unfortunately). I feel the only way Yedlin or Sorto can become starting RB is basically by forcing their way by getting some minutes in MLS leading up to the WC. Still don't think reserve minutes for either would sway Tab's mind too much as well.
I'd LOVE to see something like this. ------------salgado------------- cuevas-----villareal-------joya ---------stanko--gil oce---brooks--zimmer---henley ------------cropper
But he had to see what we saw, which is OC struggling in multiple games. Loyalty is one thing but Tab's coaching future is on the line.
Based on some of the info bshredder was giving out earlier in the year on the situation I'd say it's more likely than one might think at first glance.
We'll see how Trapp does the rest of this tournament but I think i'd actually like to see just Stanko in the holding role. Trapp just hasnt impressed me enough so far. Didnt start this Canadian match well (though he turned it around) and was iffy in the previous matches. Plus Cuevas has been too good also for me. I dont want to see any of Cuevas, Gil, Joya, Villareal displaced. It would be nice to see Joya in his best position as well but he certainly did quite well in the midfield today. That's another thing i'll be paying attention to in the rest of this tournament.
Looks good except I wouldn't have Gil playing that far back, not good enough defensively nor does he have the work rate to play that deep. Might have to sacrifice one of Gil, Villareal and Joya for a more all around mid, personally out of the three I'd probably take Joya off.
I don't see anybody else really unless Pineda or Salgado recover and push their way into the lineup and Salgado is dropped out to the wing.
I dont think anyone. The thing is, if Zimmerman and Brooks come in at central defense, ONeill & Stanko are made midfielders. Stanko, Lopez, Trapp, Gil, Joya, & ONeill are my guess but maybe Alejandro Guido or Tyrone Mccargo could find a way on, just to drop a few names.
McCargo was only called in once by Ramos. Now perhaps Nurnberg didn't want to release him but by contrast Stanko was called in four times. Not entirely sure Ramos rates him at all. Guido as well was only called in twice, where again, you might say that Tijuana declined to release him, which is possibly, but Joya was called in four times and unlike Guido has four first team appearances for Santos.
Yeh Gil probably will need to be pushed up further. however, he has seen some good minutes in a CM role at RSL.
