Seattle and Colorado Play on 4/20 Teams from two states that just legalized marijuana play each other on 4/20. And it is a 4PM local time start. Somebody in the scheduling office had a good laugh and I cannot wait to see how the fans at this game respond.
For those interested, here's the OSU/Crew potential conflicts. 8/31/13 OSU vs. Buffal0 Seattle @ Columbus 7:30 9/7/13 OSU vs. San Diego State Columbus @ KC 7:30 9/14/13 OSU @ California Columbus @ Montreal 9/21/13 OSU vs. Florida A&M Chicago @ Columbus 7:30 9/28/13 OSU vs. Wisconsin Columbus @ Dallas SUNDAY 10/05/13 OSU at Northwestern KC @ Columbus 7:30 10/19/13 OSU vs. Iowa Crew @ New England 7:30 10/26/13 OSU vs. Penn State Columbus hosts New England SUNDAY
I'll not be shocked if there's at least one direct conflict timewise, as I suspect we'll get a night game in there somewhere. Or the Buffalo game will move to Thursday.
Buffalo and Florida A&M don't sound like night games to me. Those really ought to be noon starts. The Iowa game will probably be either 3:30 or noon, unless both teams are undefeated and ESPN/ABC wants it in primetime.
I think last year, there was one Saturday with OSU at noon and a home Crew game at 7:30. There was a 3:30 away OSU game with a home Crew game that night. All other weekends had no conflicts. I guess last year plus the US-Mexico game this year spells karma for this year's scheduling. Buffalo on Thursday night on BTN? I could see that. Remember that this game was moved to the first weekend, albeit for other reasons. OSU doesn't like Thursday nights though, and understandably so. (They're a PITA when dealing with all those parking spots being used for the offices, students and whatnot.) My personal biggest conflicts are when both teams are home. If the Crew game is on the road that night, that's why DVRs were invented.
If both teams are away, the obvious answer is 4th street, where I'm quite sure both games would be on, as they've been in the past. Problem solved. And yes, I did go to the OSU-Colorado (3:30) and Columbus-LA (7:30) doubleheader. Traffic was F-U-N, fun. There's always the 1998 OSU game when everyone was allowed onto the field after the game and pulled up huge pieces of the field, as the field was being lowered that offseason. I remember wearing a Crew jersey under the OSU stuff, as there was an away Crew game that night. Naturally, I pulled off the OSU stuff when I went onto the field.
As KCbus would say, it's like Burger King -- "Have it your way." A lot of those doubleheaders is why caffeine was invented.
I can't see there being any direct conflicts, only potential night games are when we're playing on Sunday.
The Penn State game is likely to be a night game, IMHO--it has been in the past and it's not in November (when the conference does not allow night games)
What a shit OOC slate for this season. I know they have Okie, Va Tech, Oregon, etc coming up in the next few seasons, but this year, jeez.....
The 8/31 game was supposed to be against Vanderbilt, but they bailed a couple of months ago. Getting Buffalo is about all they could do. Even with Vandy, it's a weak schedule.
It's also at the end of October. OSU seems to have played several night games on that weekend over the past few years.
