Well, I am sure that we have all heard by now that we are looking at March 2, 2013 as the date for MLS First Kick 2013. According to the Daily Doop: For people with schedule questions, we hear the league is set to announce the home openers for each of its 19 clubs tomorrow. And while we can’t say who the teams are just yet, it’s a start for those eager to plan out their schedule. As already announced, the league will kick off March 2 this year. As far as when the full slate of matches will be released by MLS, your guess is as good as ours. We do know the holdup generally stems from national television picking which matches it’d like to feature so don’t blame MLS – blame its broadcast partners. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/ne...sey-explained-first-kick-stuff-and-old-timers So, I guess we find out when we next get to DOOP at PPL tomorrow! something to look forward to.
Due out any second now. I'm willing to bet we don't open the season at home, again, for the 4th straight year.
The Union get a Week 1 home opener for the first time ever. Saturday March 2 against Kansas City. followed by @ColoradoRapids away March 9
03.09.13 ... Conor Casey* returns to the Dick. *assuming he signs on the dotted line this week after his little jaunt to Belize.
Home opener is March 2 at PPL vs. the Wiz. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/news/2012/12/how-union-has-fared-against-sporting-kc-and-colorado
I'm not sure I follow. They also have the Union playing Colorado at the Dick on March 2. Not sure which one is true. OK, on the main page they have the home opener against KC, but that link shows two matches on March 2.
Kansas City will be a good first test at how we'll hold up against the stronger teams in the league for next year.
It seems real now! I cannot wait for First Kick. March 2 will probably be cold, but fun! Bring on SKC!!!
Here are our 2013 opponents, and where we play them... Houston (2 home, 1 away) Chicago (2 home, 1 away) Toronto FC (2 home, 1 away) New York (1 home, 2 away) DC United (1 home, 2 away) New England (1 home, 2 away) Columbus (1 home, 2 away) Montreal (1 home, 1 away) Sporting KC (1 home, 1 away) Chivas USA (home) Colorado (away) FC Dallas (home) Los Angeles (home) Portland (home) Real Salt Lake (away) San Jose (away) Seattle (home) Vancouver (away)
Is it set in stone that the teams we played twice in 2012, we ALWAYS play twice? Shouldn't that rotate from season to season?
I hope it's later in the day. Since I already know I'm working until 1:00pm. I work something like every eighth Saturday. Apparently every eighth Saturday is when I have things to do.
Sporting Kansas City players are probably already whining and gesticulating about having to play away from home opening day.
MLS said that the schedule in 2013 would mirror the 2012 schedule, but in reverse. (I guess that would be a mirror, wouldn't it?) The teams that we played twice at home, they now have that advantage of playing us at home twice.
I'm pretty sure the premise behind the new-fangled unbalanced schedule is that you play those teams within your conference more than those in the other one, AND regional rivalries would be emphasized. So, since we played RBNY twice at PPL and once at RBA, we could surmise that this go-around would mean twice up in Harrison and once down on Chester.
I'll either drive or fly ($247 round-trip) to the Colorado match. Thank God the game is on a Saturday, unlike last year's first road game. (A Tuesday night in Portland)
Last season is a distant memory. March 2nd cannot come soon enough. I am ready to see the Union take the pitch again. Yah.
By 2014, there should be a new team in NY so the schedule can be balanced again. Assuming the NYC are put in the East, one team will need to move to the west. The likely candidates would be the teams in the Central time zone: CHI, SKC and HOU. What they will do in 2014 is anyone's guess.
I come in peace but prepare your buttholes, plenty of us coming from KC. Luckily, we're all very friendly, swap scarves, hell, we can even bring you beer that you can't get out east. Looks to be a good time for all. See you guys on the 2nd.
