He and Caroll have both been awful. Williams keeps playing his crosses directly into Orlando's defenders. Caroll is a turnover machine that can't mark his man and gets beat repeatedly. Only poor finishing and some mental brain farts have kept Orlando from scoring. With a few exceptions, the team looks shockingly poor.
Hard to argue that Cruz even deserves a spot on the team at this point. All hustle, no skill and his hustle comes in the form of an out of control missile launching from point to point on the field and recklessly launching into opposing players. Carroll needs to step up his game, making me miss Gabriel Gomez at this point. All in all, a very poor showing by the U so far.
Does anyone have a positive thing to say about that half? Negatives of note: Danny Cruz Jeff Parke and Amobi are totally out of sync. Danny Cruz Brian Carroll Why so many crosses? Sheanon Williams Danny Cruz
Does Daniel know he has a right foot? He's worthless aside from set pieces because whenever he receives the ball at his right foot he has to stop and turn so the ball's on his left, but now he has no forward momentum, and has given the defense extra time to react. I have the same problem with Le Toux that I always had. First off, he can't take corners to save his life. At least the balls are getting in the air though, even if it's way too high for anyone to reach. He tracks back to play defense, but then when we try to play a counter attack, you're left with one attacker against 4 defenders and he's stuck running back from deep midfield and is no longer a threat. If he wants to be a forward, he needs to stay where he is. The anti-Cruz circle jerk is stupid. No one is forming good attacks, at least Danny is the only player to get crosses into the box to be close to dangerous. Also, I love imagining UnionDues cringing in his seat everytime the commentator mentions Marfan's future getting a shot at the USMNT
Didn't expect much tonight, figuring City had the benefit of outdoor practicing on regulation fields and all but........seriously.........you can't start Cruz and Daniel and tell me you expect to score. You just can't. What is Hackworth trying to prove with this midfield-other than it's the worst in MLS-that we don't already know? Adu's money needs to be put to better use, or Vidal needs to be a genius.......or maybe they need to consider offering Heath this job..........
I think Casey was getting into dangerous places, which is good. Keon looks to be playing well, but he didn't seem very aggressive yet.
Is anybody from Philly in the stands? The on-air "talent" is worse than anybody we've had doing Union games. I agree, Carroll looks confused and LeToux should not be taking corner kicks. Cruz actually looks a little improved to me. Not much, but I think he was worse last year. They don't look like they've been practicing much together, especially around the goal.
At this point I'd like to see LeToux move to where Cruz has been playing and put Jack & Casey up top. As much as I know everyone likes to point out LeToux's goals, the truth is, that I find his assists far more important. It's truly where his game shines. As such, I thought Marfan and Garfan were their usual examples of mediocrity. Carroll has had some letdowns, but we've still no better option for what he does. The mystery, though? Is Soumare the Union's Andrew Bynum? If he's not able to play, I'm worried about this back line. That being said, it is preseason game #1. Got a few weeks to draw some things up and get some guys onto the same page.
Didn't even get a single min today and Agbossoumonde did well in his place. At this rate, might not even make the starting lineup for the first game. Questions about whether he consumed too many donuts off season
OMG BRIAN CARROLL MISSED THAT SHOT FROM 40 YDS OUT AND AS A DMID HAS OFFERED NOTHING TO THE ATTACK HES SO WORTHLESS.... that's why he has 2 MLS Cup rings and 4 Supporters Shields under his belt
I thought Marfan's performance at CAM was noteworthy. He slipped a few really nice passes thru to Cruz who of course couldn't do anything with them, made good decisions and played defense without attacking dribblers like spider monkey... Casey def makes a difference with that height as there is actually a potential target on crosses and free kicks now. Thought Keon played pretty well too with his usual crafty ball control game. Rest of the team were pretty awful, Carroll, Cruz, Okugo and Sheanon especially.
Williams has also been responsible for those as well. There was one giveaway that Williams had that, had it been an MLS team, would have been an easy goal.
*first preseason game... settle down... things can't really be this bad...* *first preseason game... settle down... things can't really be this bad...* *first preseason game... settle down... things can't really be this bad...*
Yikes, that wasn't pretty. The most enjoyable part of the game thus far is seeing posters reveal their grudges and biases after 45 minutes.
