Besides last year, the only times a sash has been on their shirt was from 2003-2006....a majority of their history hasn't had it.... they brought it back for the latest jersey and I think its here to stay now.

Again, my complaint is with teams that add a distinctive element (the Galaxy's sash, Portland's two-shade jerseys, Vancouver's narrow stripes) only to get rid of it two years later and replace it with boring, common, solid color.

If you're going to add something distinctive to your jersey, commit to it. Only remove it if you think it was a horrible mistake. Don't replace it with boring solid color just because two years have gone by.

Totally agree, and especially with those examples. They are definitely in my top five of best in the league. I remember geeking out over Portland's kit unveiling. So much attention to detail and special nods towards their city. I'm just hoping they either keep the same elements or come up with something just as creative.

Was the two tone really designed to be Portland's "Distinctive Trait' though? I'd say the white sleeves would fall into that "distinctive trait" category... (which the leaked new uniforms still have)

I dunno, with madrid for sure i agree but other teams its a mix id say.

I agree with different color socks though, it really can do a lot. Manchester United to me has the greatest combo in the world, the red white and black.

We also have to remember that the fact everyone of our teams is tied to adidas definitely hurts the originality each team can have with their jerseys. Those white stripes really make it look very uniform and boring. Sure the contract with adidas makes financial sense but it kills uniqueness and creativity.

i dunno if they had that in mind either, too early to really tell.

Columbus was on to something with the black and yellow bars but havent done it in a while and i think it was a stupid decision and shame to ditch that unique (for mls)/cool design. Sounders are very distinctive b/c of their hideous (imo) colors. Dallas, Houston (maybe with the orange), Chivas are the only others that come to mind that stick out considerably year in, year out

Agreed. I think it would be unreasonable to expect the two toned look to continue forever. Predominantly green with white sleeves is the Timbers' "look" and it is a good one.

As opposed to the Arsenal shirts they have currently? ;)

Still wondering if it'll have small minor details to it with the authentic.

That is a luscious V of green from the chest pubes all the way down to the ball-fro.

It actually made it's reappearance first as a watermark in the 09-10 away jersey. Then there was a gap year before it showed up on the current homes like you said.

until you see it on a player you can't tell. it's not that bad honestly. Come on Timbers fans, at least you don't wear puke "rave" green

I think that Timbers shirt is pretty solid, maybe not quite as good as the last, but still nice. Only thing I don't like is the triangle under the collar, but I'm sure that's an adidas template thing that we will unfortunately see on other new jerseys this year.

It's because PDX went the the "Campeon" template.

    This is the standard base.

IIRC, Seattle typically uses the Campeon template...

Man, Roy Wegerle and the Rapids were way ahead of their time.

In the right light it looks fine... but then when you see the watermark on the left side of the jersey is gets pretty dang busy.

Either way, great deal for Sporting. That's only three clubs without jersey sponsors now, right?

Also the only 2 teams without DPs. Last year Sporting also had neither a shirt sponsor nor DP.

I hate to bump old posts, but it's more than a minor gripe: it's a violation of US flag code to have the flag on a sports uniform.

In a vacuum, the new Portland jerseys don't look bad. Unfortunately, they do seem like a step down from their current look. Wonder what they have planned for shorts, footwear, etc.
