They are saying his body is "MLS" ready. Questioning his positional and foot abilities... Sounds a lot like a certain 6'5" centerback we currently have on the roster back when he came into the league...
Also says they intend to keep Gonzilla this season and then see what happens after the season. Sounds like we're all in on the three-peat, not worried about losing him on a free transfer...
Could the signing of Rugg be an indicator that McBean and Villareal will be seeing more minutes this term?
Ives says Zardes would have been the number 1 pick. Between Zardes, Rugg, and Villarreal, maybe we have a starter along side Keane?
I like this pick. Very underrated because teams thought he was Canadian. Which means he would of counted as an international for us. However turns out he has a US passport.
Really sounds like they see Opare as the Gonzilla replacement for NEXT season. Give him a year learning under Omar, playing all the reserve games and the occasional game when we need to use our depth, then he takes over next season as the "big" center back after Gonzilla makes his move overseas...
That's right. Up until the Combine, everyone thought he only had Canadian citizenship and would count as an international player for US teams. But when he arrived at the Combine, he told them he has a US passport.
Well, if Arena is thinking that Rugg might end up as a wide player for us, and with Opare in at center back, the question is whether there are any left backs available at the very end of the draft... If we could nab one, then we'd have hit our 3 most glaring needs...
Oh yeah. Does he seriously think Alvarez is going to be a great #10 from day 1? I'm going to love Chivas this year.
Cochrane, the LB/LM that Ives had as the 25th best player on his draft board, is still available for us if we want him with the last pick...
Well, if Rugg can play right mid, we drafted the three positions of need.... Also looks like we drafted guys we intend to groom and build into potential starters. All three of these guys I heard the same thing - MLS "bodies" - meaning they have the physical tools. Now they get mentored and reserve games and Arena and team hopefully "coach up" their technical skills. Plus we "drafted" the top player on the board and the best forward in this class by signing Zardes to a homegrown contract. I might not agree specifically with each player, but I see the reasoning in Arena's plan...
