Montreal has totally reached with both of their picks.

Surprisingly, TFC has done really well in this draft.

And just now, Twellman and Lalas both say that they think Donovan won't be playing at the start of this season.

    Whoa. We took Rugg.

Maybe we think one of those other two will still be available at 23.

    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 175 lbs.
    • Birth Date: 10-02-1990
    • Birthplace: Roslindale, Mass.

Big, back-to-goal target forward who ranks sixth all-time at Boston College in goals (23) and points (60).
What Scouts Say: "Technically not as clean as you'd like him to be, but has good pace, good power and likes to play with his back to goal so he can get other players involved in the game ... Would like to see him be a little more dynamic and be a danger to score on his own ... when they played 4-3-3, he was No. 9; in different formation he can be more dangerous ... Has athleticsm and physical presence to have a chance in MLS... doesn’t need a bunch of opportunities to score goals… lot of injuries ... Stock is down because he missed a lot of the year, six weeks of the season maybe more and the team suffered as a result ... He's more athletic than tehcnial but not just a bull in the china shop ... engouh technical that being in a pro enviroment wher eyou're forced to be trehcncial, he has enough there to delveop and can get better at it."
2011: Named to the All-ACC First Team and the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team ... was also a two-time ACC Player of the Week.
2010: One of three players to start all 20 matches ... All-ACC First Team honoree.
2009: Played in 22 games, including all eight ACC contests ... earned All-ACC Freshmen Team accolades.
High School: Earned 2008 NSCAA/adidas High School All-America honors; also earned NSCAA/adidas Massachusetts Player of the Year honors as a senior forward at The Rivers School ... also gained Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year honors in 2008-09
Club: FC Greater Boston Bolts and the FC Blazers ... also competed in Massachusetts Olympic Development Program

Back to goal target forward type.

I guess his stock dropped because of injuries...

If they are right and Donovan is still trying to figure out what he wants on opening day I will have lost a ton of respect for him. He is under contract. You either show up, ask to be sold or retire but you do not leave the club who has given you everything you wanted hanging like that.

Interesting. Either our back 4 are staying put or there's a big name defender coming in.

    Well, that was a surprise.

Sounds like a target forward, replacement for Buddle?

I've long thought one thing we were really missing was an athletic presence up top. Sounds like he's a nice power/pace combo.

FC Dallas takes the gamble on Hollingshead.

Zardes as well. Sounds like Rugg and Zardes will add a lot of athleticism to the front-line...

Three picks before we go, with Kindle, Tucker-Gagnes and Schoenle (best remaining left back and centerbacks, respectively) still available.

    EDIT:

Two picks before us and all 3 are still available. So we can get one of them.

Unless, of course, Rugg's brother is available...

    :)

Add Jack McBean and Jose Villarreal to these guys, and we're really young up top. With only Keane as our only veteran forward.

Seems like we really reached for Rugg. He would of been available at 24, more than likely. And perhaps at 38 as well.

NE now on the clock before us and all 3 are available still. Can't see NE taking another centerback (but who knows) so we might have our pick of centerbacks. Tucker-Gagnes is the closest thing out there to a Gonzilla replacement. Obviously you can't really replace him, but he's the closest thing we could draft...

Whoa, all 3 still on the board. Let's see which (if any) we pick...
