I would love nothing more than to see a snow bowl similar to what happened in CO for the USMNT WCQ game. I believe the MLS dreamt up this highest points host the cup because at the time LA was rolling. How else could you justify keeping the Cup in LA back to back years? I think it's absolutely ridiculous to say the MLS cannot align themselves with a normal FIFA club schedule due to weather, when you hold the MLS Cup in Dec. Then you force all the playoff games to be played in 1.5 weeks (aside from the second leg of the Conference Finals) due to the FIFA Days. It's absolutely stupid.
The MLS Cup was in the same city in consecutive years in 2003-2004 (Home Depot Center) and in 2005-2006 (Pizza Hut Park) without switching to the current system. The odds of LA getting to host two years in a row with the new system were pretty low. They were only able to do it because the Galaxy hosted the Dynamo. If any other team had won the East in 2012 then LA would have been on the road. You don't think there is a difference between playing a couple of playoff games in this weather and playing an entire slate of league games? This is the first weekend in December. Winter is just getting going. High temps around the league this Saturday: Commerce City, CO: 16F mostly cloudy Bridgeview, IL: 23F clear Columbus, OH: 24F clear Kansas City: 26F clear Portland, OR: 27F clear Montreal, QC: 27F partly cloudy Sandy, UT: 28F snow Seattle, WA: 29F clear Toronto, ON: 30F partly cloudy Vancouver, BC: 31F clear Frisco, TX: 32F mostly cloudy Foxborough, MA: 38F snow Harrison, NJ: 41F partly cloudy Chester, PA: 42F ice pellets Houston: 42F overcast Washington, DC: 43F partly cloudy San Jose, CA: 46F clear Carson, CA: 58F chance of rain And most of those places in the East get worse on Sunday with ice and snow. Which 9 cities get to host this weekend? I agree about the early playoff scheduling.
The more that I think about it, the more the odds seem to be against SKC. The referee will play a big part in the result. RSL midfield is pure class.
this is an ugly hackfest that Grajeda is perpetuating...Benny should have seen yellow just as much as Saborio...Dwyer should have seen yellow for the bike to the face...Collin should be off for two yellows...this "style" of refereeing definitely bodes well for the Sporks...I hope RSL sneaks one in and squelches this farce of a match...
Wow this is ridiculous. Full push to the ground. That is an ejection in any sport . Yet in this game for SKC.. not even a yellow. Nielson looks like he is on drugs
KC knows refs are reluctant to pull cards in the playoffs so they play over the edge and get away with it. Theyve played this way 3 straight games with no consequences. They started fouling in the preseason and never stopped. But Garber has his cherished "atmosphere"
Former Dynamo Palmer blows it for RSL in PKs, 10-9. Sporting Park doesn't even look that ecstatic to win the Cup.
I agree. Just terrible, from the blow out of Portland to the out of control thug ball in the final. Crappy narratives, and poor football all around.
Collins second yellow would have been a straight red sometimes, he was totally free after that. Total bullshit to allow a team that dives And hacks And whines to win.
Lets just put this season behind us and look forward. "We're getting that cup next year!!!!" "What? Open Cup?!?" "Yeah, why not?!? More silverware to put in our empty trophy case"
