CCL: Houston Dynamo emboldened by Santos victory: "We should be judged for the winning" Team of the Week (Wk 1):
Just saw this thread. Good idea. NYT soccer blog: Dynamo Gaining Blue-Chip Approval http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/...-chip-approval/?smid=tw-nytimesgoal&seid=auto
I like the line about the shirt sponsor..."a global brand." I appreciated Amigo Energy and Greenstar for the funding and sponsorship. But having a major global company would be a lot more interesting.
It is interesting. Because from a pure business perspective, these established global brands are the ones in the least amount of need for additional sponsorship. The ones that sponsor major sports do so, in part, because the associated commercial time plus "all game coverage" offsets their current marketing spend for air time. MLS still struggles a bit with that due to limited commercials, the relative inexpensive air time, and the fact that commercial TV ratings are still behind other sports. All that being said, the Dynamo should be in decent shape based on the number of national TV games they have.
Ortiz is taking this blog to task on his twitter feed Jose de Jesus Ortiz @OrtizKicks Somewhere @ChrisCanetti must be telling Powell, "Great job, Brownie." (Katrina reference) Got one-source PR piece from blogger. 7:20 a.m. - Mar 8, 2013 · Details
What is going on with these two? I don't like the tone that the Chronicle has taken with the Houston Dynamo.
I don't follow Ortiz on Twitter nor read the Chronicle. Is there a feud going on? Maybe someone like Nigel, or Ponce can shed some light.
He keeps harping on attendance, but he clearly hasn't done his homework. It took me all of two seconds to find this: http://www.worldfootball.net/zuschauer/concacaf-champions-league-2012-2013/1/
What a little bitch Ortiz has become. This was another of his tweets today. "Days after Dynamo opened season as 1 of 3 MLS teams without jersey sponsor b4 non-sellout VP boasts to blogger." One of the Dynamo Theory editors had an interesting comment about the other day about what his beef is. "Expect to see Ortiz become even more inflammatory/frustrated as the Front Office continues to push him away while bringing in “unqualified and unprofessional fan bloggers”."
Wait, I thought Ortiz was the unqualified and unprofessional fan blogger. I'm sure John McClain and Jonathan Feigen don't get told everything or get leaked misinformation. I don't recall either slamming Rick Smith or Daryl Morey via twitter.
From last month but interesting to see Grant Wahl and Avi Creditor (ok, I admit I don't read enough SI.com soccer coverage to know the latter) predict us to win the 2013 MLS Cup. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20130228/mls-preview-roundtable/ Are our Rodney Dangerfield days behind us?
