And her goal keeper assistant coach Jenni Branan was an even bigger star at UNC and has 6 caps with the WNT.
I agree this would be a interesting topic coaches that I could think off the top of my head would CSUSB head coach TC, grand valley state head coach DD, Christian Johnson assistant at CSUB, cal Lutheran head coach FM.
I always think it is funny when people make this comment. Just because you played at a high level does not mean you can coach. Yes unc has a great pedigree nobody will ever doubt that however playing at unc, Stanford, und, etc does mean you will be a good coach. I wish this staff the best of luck moving forward. I would curious to see how many D I coaches that have been successful that have played at a high level or pro compared to those that have not.
Don't know who is leaving, but the Notre Dame job listing for an assistant women's coach was posted on April 5 with an application deadline of April 8. It also states "there is a preferred candidate for this position."
Jim Robbins coached Division I on the men's side prior to taking the LaGrange job. He is also native NJ guy so relocating to Long Island from Georgia isn't all that much of a change for him. I'm more curious to see if Corey Holton returns to Division III or stays in DI.
Let the conversation begin. What college coaches will get a sniff for the newly open National Team gig?
I don't know who might be getting a look but do know that whoever takes over will have their work cut out for them. While I think the US will continually be one of the top teams in the world the dominance that they have shown over the last 20+ years will wane, if it already hasn't done so. A bit of panic may be setting in because of the last few performances. It was evident the womens global landscape was changing with the performances of France and Japan at the last world cup. I for one was very impressed with their performances. Ultimately this is good for womens soccer, but it will be a tough pill to swallow for the USA. The DePauw job would in my opinion be a top D3 spot to be at. It's a very good academic school, good looking campus with lot's of new construction for both academics and athletics (Developing a new soccer, lacrosse, field hockey facility). I know a few ladies that play there and they are great kids. Although they have struggled the last 7-8 years they improved to double digit wins last year. There is definitely room for improvement. If I was able I'd be onto that job right away.
UIW….formality…Anne is getting job, I believe it's a contractual thing that Tina's will run out and then Anne's begins…no need for UIW to pay 2 head coaching salaries! Don't see Depauw risking hiring Corey….they had a coach for over 20 years….Corey would be looking every year to get back to D1….Depauw deserves better, and probably will get a lateral move top D3 person….notice I said person not guy
I think it would be interesting for someone like Anson to coach the Fall at UNC, then contract with US Soccer for 2015 to win a World Cup and then retire. Not a prediction but would not surprise me (and be a good call by US Soccer, imho).
What happened this place died? Any news on Dartmouth announcement any news on current openings UNLV IPFW etc?
I spoke to soon. Looks like Stanford asst has been promoted to Associate HC at Stanford not going to Dartmouth
UNH coach jumps after 1 year back to Providence…UNH must feel pretty used…bet these next rounds of interviews are going to be tough!
Recruiting is tough as it's right off the strip. Imagine the conversation between a dad and his 16 yro daughter right after they've passed the casinos and strip clubs and drunks on the strip. Sure you can get into trouble anywhere but it's Vegas and there's a stigma. More importantly though the budget isn't good enough to be competitive. A lot of time spent fundraising and away from identifying players. I believe only one full time asst. I might be wrong on that though. If so that's changed fairly recently. Support from the administration is next to zero as I've heard they don't really care about the sport there, just a title IX offset sport. The men's program has been threatened to be cut for years which would probably help the women's side, but who knows how much.
