That was exhausting to watch. Need to rest up for the Fire game. Detroit just melted down in the last few minutes with stupid penalties. After a great start to the game, I feel like we stole that one.
This is unreal. According to www.sportsclubstats.com, 56 points guarantees a playoff spot. That's just 13 more points, or 6 wins and an OT loss.
I realize his schtick for ESPN has just devolved to being as annoying as possible, but boooooooo Stephen A.
There is no comparison really. Look at the record streaks in basketball, LA set it in 71-72 with 33 straight wins, And I think since 2000 there have been 4 or 5 streaks of 15 wins in a row. And the Bulls had an 18 game streak during the 72-10 season. Hockey is a more demanding game and you will succeed with a superstar, but it takes more of a team effort to win in Hockey than BBALL. Plus other aspects smith overlooked, condensed season, little training camp, starting the season off with 10 of 12 on the road. Longer game in hockey, 60 mins v 48. And you get 2000 timeouts in bball, compared to 1 for hockey.
Something else, I can take the Blackhawks players and put them on a Bball court and they can play the game. How well is another matter, but they could go out onto a court and play. How many bball players can lace up skates and play any hockey?
The Lakers never ran into a hot goaltender during their streak. Seriously, hockey is more analogous to soccer given the scarcity of goals. In b-ball (particularly the NBA) you can be down 25 in the third and still have a reasonable shot at winning.
In a semi-related note, Seth Jones, son of Jordan era NBA player Popeye Jones (he of the elephantine ears) is tipped to be the #1 pick of the upcoming NHL Draft. Over the last several years Jones, a defenseman, has led various US U-18 & U-20 teams to 3 golds and a silver in international competitions.
Haha, I don't think I've seen any Blackhawks player this year as thrilled to score a goal as Carcillo with that last minute winner. Halfway through the season unbeaten in regulation. Hope Hossa and Sharp are back quickly.
I was lucky enough to have been at tonight's game. When I accepted the ticket a month or so ago this streak wasn't in sight. I was a bit nervous I'd be the jinx. Glad to see they pulled out another regulation victory.
Montador is back, Bollig got sent down. Any word on Sharp, Shaw, and Hossa? I think Hossa will be back, as for Sharp that is a concern with the shoulder and with Shaw I have no idea. I guess if they call anyone up from Rockford that will be our clue.
To be honest, I think that is more palatable then a last minute stunned. Streak over. No "ifs." Now let's move on to the real prize.
It's pretty clear that any line in hockey right now with Hossa is the best line in hockey. If you add Toews, a 5 on 5 looks very much like a power play. They're a pretty powerful combination.
I like the fight back in them. Too bad they couldn't come all the way back, but a very nice effort over the last two periods. The team overall looked good, but it was clear that Pause cost them the game in the first period.
I was at Sundays game and briefly thought about leaving when it was 4-0 but I stayed and even though the hawks eventually lost 6-5 I'm glad I stayed and admire their never say die attitude.
