If you are interested in volunteering at Breakers games: Wood also said the team is looking for game-day volunteers, who will do things like help set up the field, man the "fan zone," run the merchandise table and serve as ball boys and ball girls. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the Breakers' volunteer coordinator, David Kimmleman, at dkimmelman@verizon.net. There's a volunteer meeting at Dilboy Stadium on March 21 at 6:30 p.m.
According to her twitter page. Julie King has either resigned or got invited to Breakers camp. She is definitely in shape having just finished the Women's basketball season at Auburn. However she will have to get herself in soccer shape quickly to compete for a spot on the team this year.
Is there even one U.S. subsidized player in this league that will play in NWSL this year? (on opening day)?
Meet the Team and jersey unveiling take place April 12 Event hosted by We Got Soccer in Foxboro One of the biggest preseason events is right around the corner and something you certainly don’t want to miss out on. The Breakers will have their annual Meet the Team event and this year have made it even more exciting. The team will unveil its brand new home, away, and goalkeeper jerseys that the Boston Breakers will wear in the inaugural 2013 National Women’s Soccer League season! The event takes place Friday, April 12, from 7-9 p.m. at We Got Soccer in Foxboro, Mass. "The event will be a great experience. We will have our final squad in attendance to sign autographs and mingle with the crowd. On top of that, we will be unveiling our new 2013 Breakers home, away and goalkeeper uniforms," Boston Breakers General Manager Lee Billiard said. "Both Breakers and We Got Soccer are excited to host this event. Reminder, the event is for full season members only, so purchase yours now and receive access to this one time event." The event is open solely to full season membership holders and invited VIPs. Seems to be a case of bad geography though. The event is being held 35 miles from where they play (and just about as far from where they train).
Two updates today: 1) Seating for the home opener is going to be limited to 2500 for the opener. They can't begin construction on the new stands until the ground is more firm: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...15318201923.158965.24673796923&type=1&theater 2) Confirmed signing of Libby Guess. http://www.bostonbreakerssoccer.com/home/707893.html
Boston should sign Holly King, and convert her to defense. I believe she was cut by the Spirit. That way they can have Julie King and Holly King, the two former "Kings" who played in the SEC. Why no Carrie Dew? She's got experience. I would also consider Tiana Brockway, who played at Florida State Stacy Bishop is a former Breakers alum. Kasey Moore is as well. Can Kelly Schmedes be converted to an outside back? Kristi Eveland could run all day. They could use a defender like that. Kristen Graczyk played for UCONN. She's been rooted in the east before. Just thinking outside the box. The Breakers need to address their back-line with some much needed depth.
If this is true, how crappy for this to happen before the season starts? Good Luck Bianca! Get well soon! Go Breakers!
Now it's being reported that it's just a partial ACL tear, and that she'll only miss part of the season (and not the whole season). http://www.nwslnews.com/boston-brea...-miss-part-of-season-due-to-partial-acl-tear/
LOL, the Boston Breakers just signed "Ocean Spray" as their official #1 sponsor. This is fantastic, lol. Can't wait to see it on their kits during their jersey unveil ceremony coming up later this week.
Yeah, I noticed that on Twitter. I like the main logo, but don't like the "Crave the Wave" part. But good! Universally known sponsor.
This is only GREAT news for this league. This will also make the other franchises strive even more to get top sponsors. Best franchise sponsor ever, (so far) in the history of American women's professional soccer. And it's been a long time since I had an Ocean Spray. I'm buying some tomorrow.
I'm a big late to the game this year, not having kept up with the league during the offseason and having bought my season ticket only just earlier this week. I hope parking won't be too difficult this year. The Boston Breakers 2013 Media Guide is now available: http://www.bostonbreakerssoccer.com/docs/BostonBreakers2013MediaGuide.pdf I think that the news got lost in the shuffle, but the Breakers recently signed Kate Howarth, formerly of the WPSL New England Mutiny.
It will never be easy to park at that location, but here's a tip -- Sunday street parking is unrestricted in Somerville. I just park over on North Street and can get out a lot quicker (of course, it's only a 5 minute drive for me).
Boston invited and had several true defenders in camp, they were told that the team was going with "experience". Breakers invited them to move to Boston, find work and housing and play on the reserve team...but not to expect any playing time as the team would deal with any injuries or weaknesses in the back line by moving midfielders around. Apparently, younger, faster defenders were over looked because they were younger and faster. Good luck!
Update: http://www.nwslnews.com/boston-brea...-for-the-2013-season-with-partially-torn-acl/ Unfortunately she's now going to miss the entire season due to this injury.
I see they postponed the game with FCKC because of the troubles. According to the Breakers twitter feed.
