Would love to see Cooper in Columbus but wouldn't pay $350k. I'm thinking more like $275K. I'd take him over Arrieta in a heartbeat. I prefer a forward with size and strength like Cooper. I have no clue though what kind of demand there would be for his services or what his value really is.
I think Cooper's size and strength would pair fairly well with Oduro's speed. But like a lot of others here, I wouldn't pay him that much. Personally, I'd pay him up to whatever we ended up paying Oduro. Dom is more valuable
I lost all faith in Cooper after he mucked up my Yanks Abroad faith in him at 1860 Paging @kgilbert78
I'd try to target Rolfe if he's still available next round. He's from Kettering and has a couple years left in the tank. He's also worked with Oduro.
Also, I'm sure there's an easy answer for this: Why isn't Andy Gruenebaum in the re-entry draft. Requirements state: Players who are at least 30 years old with a minimum of eight years of MLS experience who are out of contract and whose club does not wish to re-sign them (available for at least 105% of their 2013 salary). He arrived to the Crew in 2006. Doesn't that make 8 seasons?
Does anyone think that some of the Dom Oduro $ may be getting paid directly out of the Papa John's sponsorship money?
Not possible. It all has to go towards the cap. And he gets paid by the local chain conglomerate who sponsor us for his ad work.
Players can remove themselves from the list if they'd prefer to continue to negotiate with their current team. This draft is an option to get as much money as a player can without opening full free agency but players can't be forced away from their current team.
He's getting $325 plus bonuses right now. Probably not a first round pick. Not easy to win a spot in Germany--for reasons that do not always have something to do with playing skill. The surprising Yanks Abroad is Matt Taylor. Sure he's mostly been in the third division--but I'll bet he makes more than he would in MLS. And he scores.
Sean Franklin in the first round would me nice. He is currently at $46k I wouldn't think it would be all that higher. $80 or $90? There are a lot of nice names on the list that would be worth looking at in the second round.
Franklin's the highest paid RB in the league. Huge waste of cash, that's why il Bruce gave Delagarza an audition at RB this summer and pushed Franklin into midfield. Just no point having such an expensive fullback in this league.
Try $225K--you must have looked at the wrong line. Salary info is here: http://www.mlsplayers.org/salary_info.html
We need a wing midfielder. Can you image Oduro on one side and Zakuani on the other? Speed! His base is $135k, but his guaranteed goes up to $233k. I wonder what that is all about. Mauro Rosales for $200k? Could he be a CAM to work between Higuain and Trapp? Deal of the draft looks like Brandon Barklage for $65k. Good tough, right back for near nothing. The other guys seem really expensive base salary for their contribution. Sean Franklin - $225k Chris Rolfe - $225k Bobby Boswell - $220k Bobby Convey - $200k Logan Pause - $180k Kevin Alston - $145k - Really like Alston but seems high. Justin Braun - $112k

Union landed Conor Casey this way. They selected him in the second stage of the 2012 Re-Entry Draft, and negotiated his salary down from $400,000 to $175,000.
Cooper is poor in the air. He won 44% (36:82) of his headed duels. He scored six goals, four right footed, one left footed, one headed. Arrieta for comparison is wretched: 15% (7:47) headed duels. Three goals, two right footed, one left. Oduro compared well to Cooper: He won 45 (45:100) of his headed duels. 13 goals scored, 10 right, 3 left.
I will repeat: The option salary may be much higher than the current salary. We do not have the option number, making it harder to speculate.
Good info. Do you have that same info over a longer period (last season may be an outlier--or may not--certainly Arrietta had a better year the season before)? And that does make my point. He's better in the air than Jairo (I wasn't expecting the second coming of McBride). It's an upgrade.
Hang on, you are having discussions with yourself now? Hmm. But yeah I was coming here to post the same thing. He will be back to #8.
