Good game by Miki. If he can string together 3 more games like this I am sure his confidence will soar. Piszczek is back but he needs more starts. Even though we didn't allow a set piece goal what the hell will it take to keep a clean sheet.
Piszczu returned with a solid performance here, granted it was a 5-1 victory over Bremen Schmelzer played better today. Miki had a good game today, lets hope he keeps this up instead of disappearing, if he disappears, I hope he at least reappears against Zenit. Loved the link-up play between the players, the 4th goal Werder looked dangerous at times, and most of the time we managed well, but they were unclinical, I think they could have scored more than one. Next match is Tuesday February 11th Quarterfinal match v. Frankfurt, glad to see some substitutions around the 60th minute. Subs looked decent today.
What a difference today has been for Mkhitaryan. Showed great patience to beat the lunging defender and still maintained composure to focus that shot on his first goal. That was a wonderful sequence on his second. Fluid movement off the ball and read the play perfectly to receive Reus' sweet backheel pass. For Miki, it seems like it's mind over matter. He has the offensive and finishing ability but needs consistency. Just needs to remain calm and don't let the pressure get to him too much. Hopefully today's game gives him a boost of confidence and he can carry this momentum forward. We'll need him to be a top form for the CL match coming up.
Its all in his head. I always said he has the skills to be a great player but he needs to win with the pressure or whatever it is in his brain that stops him. I shall wait for the Tuesday cup game before saying Miki is back.
The good thing about CL game is that he's fairly familiar with Russian style of play and he scored a goal against them a year ago.
Schmelzer passed to Lewy for the first Lewy had an assist according to goal.com, and he couldn't assist himself, so I assume he passed to Miki on the 2nd Friedrich's goal was off a deflection on a corner, Reus gave a nice back-heel pass to Miki on the 4th. Not sure who gave the cross from deep for Lewy's 2nd goal
Jonas Hofmann provided that long ball for the last goal. I think he did well in the limited playing time. Hopefully Klopp continues to give him more chances. Auba had a pretty pedestrian game today, so would be nice to see the lineup alternate & Hofmann in there with some starts considering the busy schedules coming up.
Exactly. Put Hofmann in there and let Auba play from 60+ minute. Now that Miki is showing signs of good form he needs to play so we could see if he really is finding stability.
I've always suspected that Micky lacks some confidence. After his 1st goal today you could clearly see a fundamental change in his game. His problems are purely mental. He packs a lot of talent.
Congrats on the stunning win, I hope it let the Werder advisory board finally wake up. There are personal decisions to be made.
Well done. The outcome wasnt surprising to anyone here. I think the lack of a poll on the OP betrays that.
