Another potential replacement for Nielsen, Matt Pickens, with Irwin winning out the CO job, Pickens could be traded for.

i'd love to have a fellow missouri st. alum on this squad.

EDIT: about the celebration tonight, i just want to reiterate how much of a plague smart phones have become at events like this (concerts, etc). i was one of the tallest individuals at the event (was about halfway back in the room), and when the team came out, my view was forever blocked by the incessant smart phones taking pictures and video. put your gd phones down and look with your eyes and stop trying to record every moment of any event. you will survive.

sooo, I know Rimando's contract was up after this year? His name wasn't on the list...does that mean he re-signed?

I would love Gruenebaum, and his salary is half that of Jimmy's.

Wish Kennedy hadn't re-upped with Chivas...

    Thanks for posting that.

That was pretty emotional. Thank you Jimmy!

Gruenebaum is not on the Re-Entry Process list, even though he is 30 years old (turns 31 on 12/30) and has eight years of MLS experience (unless 2010 does not count, since he had no league appearances that season). If I understand the rules correctly, this means that Columbus has formally offered him a contract for at least 105% of his 2013 salary ($92,220 per the Players Union) and therefore retains his MLS rights indefinitely; i.e., he can go to a club in any other league on a free transfer, but another MLS team (including SKC) can only acquire him by trading for him. Right?

They can have a stack of orange cones and a 20% off Bed, Bath and Beyond coupon.

Looks like we need a little extra cover at CB since it's a WC year and Besler will be gone for 2 months. Also another outside defender. Midfield believe we're okay on, but Zusi will be gone for a while. Forward I think is okay once we get the upcoming turnover sorted out. And of course we need to look at GK.

I'd be in favor of tweaking our formation a bit. Something like:

    ---------------TBD

    Myers--Besler----Collin---Sinovic

    -----------Nag
    --------------------Rosell
    -----------------------------Benny
    --------Zusi
    -------------Bieler------------CJ/Dom/Teal/Mikey/??

Lines up as a 4-4-2, but can easily turn into a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 as needed

Other than GK, mainly need depth. Looking at the re-entry draft, what about Ferreira or Zakuani in the MF/FW. Maybe Alston or Sean Franklin or Bobby Boswell for depth at the back. Kenny Cooper don't think would fit our system, but could be a nice option off the bench in need of a goal. And either Knighton or Cannon at GK

    How about a Christmas tree?

    Bieler
    Sapong - Zusi
    Feilhaer - Uri - Nags
    Sinovic - Collin - Besler - Myers

Not SKC related (anymore), but DCU just traded for Davy Arnaud.

No one in the re-entry draft is worth it, at least not in the first round.

As for second round it all depends on who we keep. CB depth isn't going to come from that, with Opara and Olum able to play there, that depth is more likely to be a draft pick.

Wing back depth depends on who of Gardner, Bessone, Jerome, and Ellis stay.

I'll disagree and say we do need midfield depth, especially depending on what is wrong with Joseph.

As for GK I don't see that through the re-entry draft

So, what were you doing that close to the front? Blocking the view of everyone shorter than you in front of whom you stood. Perhaps you now have a better empathy for the vertically challenged.

I agree with everything that Buzz said, except that as long as Collin stays, young guys already on the roster like Ruiz and Palmer-Brown are probably sufficient as CB depth, especially since Jerome can play there in a pinch. Besides, our first pick in the 2014 SuperDraft is not until late in the second round.

I'm not sure I'd put Jerome at CB in MLS. It might work in CONCACF but he didn't quite fit the CB mold for this league.

Still, Collin, Besler, Opara and Olum seems like enough for me right now. I'd be tempted to put Rosell back there in a desperate situation, as long as our midfield could handle it... Which, if we needed Rosell right now, it could not since that would mean Olum was also unavailable.

Too bad Songo'o didn't work out.

One question would be, who do we think we will send to Orlando next season? Lopez seems likely, Duke again? Kempin won't without having another GK.

I was looking through the guaranteed salaries and the only one who really stood out relative to production and playing time was Bunbury. Don't know what his market/trade value is post-injury with such little playing time

With Kamara gone, and not counting Zusi's games at F, it might be hard to find a team with less salary invested in forwards relative to points in the standings.

All I know is that we have these grand schemes and speculation in the offseason and the actual changes end up being pretty small and involving people we haven't heard of. I've taken to betting whether our signings are going to have more vowels in their names, or consonants, and whether more than 2 of them are paid six figures.

Chivas are perennial sellers. If he's who the FO really want, we'll get him on favorable terms.

 so, because i'm tall, i'm forbidden from being anywhere but the back of a crowd? no, there's a certain protocol about being tall in crowds, and i try to be as considerate as possible. you don't know me, so how 'bout you not assume that i'm some sort of asshole that needs to be taught a lesson.
