Klein has been instrumental in reorganizing the youth program at the Galaxy (they now have teams down to U12), partnering with affiliates, etc., but Arena coached the U16s last season to the DA championship. This season, the U16 group is perhaps not as talented as last year's. Nonetheless, they've progressed nicely, and play an attractive style. That's Arena's doing.

Good call, although it's a little strange that they took so long just to hire someone who they knew pretty well already.

How come Providence hasn't announced the new coach hire yet?

I mean, his former team announced it, but not the team that's hiring him.

Because Providence is a JOKE! The process and everything surrounding it was not what you would expect from a Big East program.

Totally agree. UWM lost its "way" and traditional roots when they made the Whalley hire. Now they are feeling it...

Anyone heard who is in the running for the Holy Cross Position? I have a friend that I know applied and has pretty good credentials.

It is official now. UWM head coach is fired. Will UWM go back to its roots? Huge network of qualified candidates connected to UWM.

Did Manny Lagos ever get his degree? I know he left early so I don't know if he finished. But he's done a good job coaching Minnesota in the NASL.

I have no idea if A) he wants to leave his hometown and B) has any interest in coaching at the college level, but it would be worth a call, provided he has his degree.

Not sure on Lagos. I do know that Jon Szczepanski, Jimmy Banks, and Jim Launder have indicated as of yesterday their interest in the job. Also, Stan Anderson is playing coy but seems to have interest. The rumor is that Szczepanski may have an inside track. However, given one of Whalley's downfalls was racial slurs (he is reported to have said "leave the thinking to the 'white' man'"), you have to wonder if repair and healing might come from bringing in Jimmy Banks.

Any mistreatment of players, especially physical should def result in that coach being fired. I would like to see Torres get the gig, but the rest of these guys are still an improvement.

    Potential coaching replacements

Given all the racial issues at uwm do you think that they go with a minority ? If so what good ones are out there ?

If only there was a UWM alum who was African American who had played in a World Cup and is coaching locally!

I know a lot of people are advocating for Jimmy Banks to get the UWM job and I'm curious why? His coaching resume isn't exactly anything to write home about as he hasn't had much success at MSOE. His hiring I'm sure would lead to short-term approval from the UWM alums but he hasn't done anything to show he will have long-term success on the bench.

Quite an off-season for Franklin Pierce U, as Providence's new hire also came from there.

Meanwhile, Noah Kooiman (not Koolman) has resigned from Cal-State San Bernardino. Kind of a strange move, as they'd been looking strong at the D2 level.

So, more than THREE MONTHS after Franklin Pierce announced head coach Craig Stewart was leaving for Providence, Providence FINALLY got around to announcing Stewart's hiring.

    Here's FPU's announcement... from February 22.

    And here's Providence's.

Despite the delay, they still had the stones to quote the school as saying they're "excited" about Stewart's hiring. So excited it took over three months to get the release written.

... because he is probably not a US citizen and you have to transfer visa status which takes about three months. I would imagine that is the reason for the delay. No HR department is going to allow a release without all the t's crossed and i's dotted.

Stanford, Michigan, Holy Cross and Kentucky, among others, managed to hire foreign coaches and get the announcement out in less than three months.

    Just sayin'...

Doesn't matter if they are foreign if they have a green card. The schools that released earlier hired coaches that probably have a green card (American wife or longer coaching experience which helped them get their green card) as opposed to H1B visa that needed to be transferred from school to school. I am not sure of the time frame to go from visa to green card or if PC coach is married to an American so just giving PC the benefit of the doubt.
