With WPS suspending operations for 2012, I contacted the Breakers via email and was assured that season ticket memberships that have been purchased will be refunded via check within 3 weeks. A sad day, hoping the talk of resuming in 2013 is not just talk, but not holding my breath.
It is sad, but if a better model comes out of the suspension in 2013, it will be worth it. I will be looking to buy tickets to WPSL Breakers if given the chance.
Worth it to Who? With the exception of the 20 odd WNT players, all of the other players are unemployed. Amazing attitude!
Good point, I phrased that poorly. Point is that there is a chance that something stronger results from this suspension.
Think of it as a player either limping along on a bad knee or taking a year off to have surgery on it and make a full recovery. In the short run, it's bad. In the long run, it might be for the best.
FYI, the Boston Breakers sent out a survey to people on their email lists (including anyone who has bought tickets in the past, I believe). Among other things, the survey asks about interest in a modified 2012 season, how important it would be to have/see big-name stars, interest in possible game days and team-sponsored activities, and for current season ticket holders, interest in using already-paid money for 2012 or 2013 tickets. I'm not sure what the options are for the organization, but I hope that this is a sign that they can pull through.
This posted today: Boston Breakers & WNY Flash to play in the new WPSL "Elite" (semi-pro) division. http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/boston/news/general/120209-Breakers-are-back.aspx
That semi-pro league has the restriction that college players cannot be on the same roster as professional players. Per the Breakers GM, the Breakers will be 100% professional.
