Hi Orlando fans! As an FC Dallas fan from Jacksonville, I came down to see both games last night and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the game and your team and your fans. The place was really rockin and even my mom who's not much of a soccer fan was getting into it and cheering you guys on. For a lower division team, I was extremely impressed with your team. While there was a bit of a gap in quality that was obvious as the game went on, it was just a small gap and not a chasm. I thought the scoreline was completely deserved and your guys gave as good as they got and played some pretty attractive soccer at times. For what it's worth (which is not much, as a one time, casual observer) a couple guys who especially impressed me were #18 who looked very fast and got in behind Toronto a few times, and the big blonde centerback (#22 or 23? can't remember) who did a great job keeping the back line organized. We sat next to a couple of young Orlando City fans who were hilarious. They spent the whole time heckling Torsten Frings (which I heartily approve of) and ragging on John Rooney. Overall the fans and the atmosphere were great. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you have a couple of new casual, from-a-distance fans from Jacksonville. If we ever get an MLS team in Florida, I really hope it's you guys, and I would definitely come down for a few games a year if it ever happened. Good luck in the coming season. I'll be pulling for you to repeat as USL champs this year, and I hope I can cheer you on in MLS some day!
You guarantee....that things could change? Oy. You said they'd sell out every game last year. You said "Theirs (sic) 950,000 people that live in pinellas county, I'm sure FCTB can get 7,000 to a game." You said the MLS players would strike in 2010 and that you would "laugh in your face" when they did. You said you bet we'd have pro/rel by 2019 and that then you will "laugh at your 'wannabe' journalistic face." See what I'm getting at? You don't know what you're talking about. You come to everything out of insecurity and anger. Go to games. Enjoy games. Don't worry about who has what that you want or the perceived "disses" of where you live. Enough already.
So in inagural first game they draw 8,100, so I thought they would sell-out ALF, but they got rid of the Rowdies name and changed it to FCTB, go figure.... we shall see April 14.
Just wanted to ask. What are the attendance figures for the Disney Cup. I'm guessing its Under the 5,968 for the Union friendly, as well as the 8,478 for the February 25th Desert Diamond Cup?
If we keep averaging in the 3k range, despite the name change and other improvements, maybe this point will finally sink in. I obviously hope we double attendance and the city of St. Pete starts supporting the team more. Alot of businesses are involved, but the city itself seems indifferent. But I'm not counting on that. I think we have a shot at averaging in the mid 4k range with a couple of sell outs or near sell outs, but more than that will take alot more than just a name change. On the other hand, if our front office would stop operating under staffed and make more of an effort it might not matter where we play. At least not while we are division 2.
If none were released, I don't know where you're going to get them. It's not a competition. It's not you guys or Orlando for #20 based on who drew more for your preseason tournament.
It’s Disney, so they probably won’t release those numbers. But maybe. ESPN Wide World of Sports is a big complex with a lot going on. People come and go to different areas. So it would be hard to get an exact number.
It’s Disney so of course there’s admission. But the price wasn’t that bad. Yes, there was a line for Soccer and a line for ‘others’ (softball, marathon runners, cheerleading)
Wow, so ITS CHEAPER, than the Desert Cup. I would like to know what the excuse is for the potential 19th MLS city in have such a low attendance. Isn't this there showcase event?
The "stadium" only fits a couple thousand people. It's not exactly huge. And it pretty much sells out when Orlando is playing.
So, you don't know the attendance, you come here asking people for the attendance, and then you say there's "such a low attendance?" Really? Look, seriously...I know you're trying to make the case that Tucson - which has hosted three-fourths of an MLS preseason tournament this year that's drawn pretty well in nice weather and which has a PDL team that has yet to play a game in 115 degree weather - should be an MLS city, but it's not happening for you. You have no knowledge of the facility, no knowledge of the market, you ignore what they've actually done with an actual professional team and you want to denigrate them for what you think they drew for a preseason tournament that MLS does not use to gauge whether or not your town would make a good expansion market or not? Really?
19th MLS city? Are talking about Montreal? Or taking a swipe at Orlando as the 20th team? Either way, it's neither club's showcase event. It's Disney's Showcase event. And it's home to Toronto for the preseason. Also, today from the Orlando Sentinel: Disney, sports boosters seek public incentives for soccer teams Walt Disney World and local sports boosters have asked the Florida Legislature for $1 million in public money to give to professional soccer teams that agree to hold pre-season training camps in Central Florida. Disney and the Central Florida Sports Commission, which have been working with Major League Soccer on the concept, say the incentives could help persuade a dozen or more teams to hold training camps in the area, similar to Major League Baseball's spring-training "Grapefruit" and "Cactus" leagues in Florida and Arizona. The goal is to have MLS teams spend each February training in the region, culminating with some or all of them competing in Disney World's Pro Soccer Classic — an annual exhibition tournament that the resort hosts at its ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
