It's almost that time of year folks. Yes, that glorious time when rkupp starts to tell us that we shouldn't look back and dwell on the past failures of the offseason, and that it is too early to begin rebuilding for next year. I love this time of year. It's better than Christmas.
Yep looks like its a done deal. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2012/07/evertons-cahill-headed-to-red-bulls.html
Cahill looked like a shadow of himself this year. Not nearly the difference-maker he was even two years ago.
No. Agreed, but you never know. He's actually going to have strikers with him that can finish for a change.
Haha why the hell is this guy a DP? He averaged less than 1 goal every 5 games in the Austrian league, it has to be because of a transfer fee.
That said, its a big pick up for NYRB. Cahill is good player by MLS standards and makes NY a better team. Cooper, Henry, Linpere, Le Teux and Cahill makes for a pretty darn good corps
Grant Wahl @GrantWahl Done deal: USMNT's Geoff Cameron tells @OrtizKicks he has signed with Stoke City, moving from Houston.
@FOXSoccerTrax: Sources tell FOX Soccer that Tim Cahill's NY Red Bulls contract is 3.5 years, at $3.5 million per season.
That would be nice, but I don't expect too much more on the acquisition front. Hopefully another defender, but the reality is we haven't even seen what impact our DP is going to have yet, so expecting another big signing is unrealistic IMO. You should hope no one takes you up on that one - you'd lose. The majority of the mistakes have been spread around pretty well, but Tierney probably isn't even among the leaders. A few, especially early on, were on Shalrie. Reis has contributed his share and Alston too. Lechner was primarily at fault on at least 2 in minimal playing time. McCarthy had some troubles, mostly early on and even the normally reliable Soares has been beaten 1v1 a number of times. For you to win your bet, you'd need to pin 13 goals against on Tierney. Good luck.
From sounderatheart.com Christian Tiffert is coming off of very tough season for Kaiserslautern where they were relegated after finishing at the bottom of table. With the departure of the previous season's leading goalscorer Srdan Lakic, Kaiserslautern simply failed to find the back of the net. They finished the season with only 24 goals scored which is the fewest of any Bundesliga team since Borussia Mönchengladbach managed only 23 in 2006-2007 season. The club's manager Marco Kurz bounced Tiffert around the midfield from the center to out wide in an attempt to find a way to spark the club's offense. As the club rotated between a 4-4-2, 4-1-4-1, and 4-2-3-1, Tiffert found himself playing five different positions, while still being the most dangerous player on the pitch. Tiffert, like his club, was much better in the previous season when he picked up 17 assists and 2 goals in a 7th place finish. If played in the middle of the pitch, Tiffert is a competent playmaker and will make his team better. Tiffert also excels on the wing and was one of the most accurate passers over the last few seasons in Europe's top five leagues. His talents were forgotten last season at Kaiserslautern with the wasteful Dorge Kouemaha as his forward. If a move to Seattle materializes, he will be far more useful with the talented Fredy Montero as his target.
Columbus signs Higuain as a DP!! Oh, it's Gonzalo's brother, Federico. Bleh, not a very exciting DP signing. 27 yo, 5'8" forward who only has a couple decent seasons in Argentina.
I would have liked a starting left or right back, but I'm happy with our two forward signings. Build for the future as I don't see any playoffs happening this year.
Seattle has been busy. They traded one DP to Chicago (who now have 2 DPs), added another and now are also looking to add a Honduran Olympian. Sounders are in 4th in the West, but have played 2 or 3 fewer games than everyone ahead of them.
Steven Goff @SoccerInsider awaiting #MLS to approve #DCU acquisition of young Brazilian central midfielder. Formality
The east has gotten a bit more congested at the top with Houston now a point behind NY (and tied with KC who is currently losing 2-1). Montreal has now put some space between them and us, 4 points up (with the tiebreaker), but having played three more games. Huge game with Houston hosting NY next weekend, and RBNY will be without McCarty who will be suspended due to yellow card accumulation.
