I'm pretty sure the Rapids had a billboard on 6th Ave between I-25 and Santa Fe earlier in the season.
I only read the article about that; never actually saw that. I'm willing to bet more people drive by that Outlaws sign than the banner on the building. I still don't know where that banner is/was.
Crew are hosting Stoke City, supposedly they also want to play a couple of other MLS teams. Seems like somebody the Rapids could get cheaply (comparatively speaking). In some ways I'd be more excited about a Stoke than I would a Chelsea or Liverpool, but then I'm twisted that way.
I like them. It would pit our free-flowing Latin passing attack vs. their kick-the-ball-to-the-head style. If Rory Delap puts in at least a half or holds a halftime long-throw competition, I'm all up for it.
I would also prefer Stoke to a "big name club". More realistic, and wouldn't bring in as many euro snobs. I could see it now if playing an Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U/City. Eurosnob: I didn't even know there was a soccer team here. Eurosnob's Eurosnob friend: Well, I dunno if you can count MLS teams as "soccer" Snob: Isn't that the truth Friend: I mean, look at this stadium, its a joke. Snob: And those jerseys? And that crest? Friend: Isn't that supporters group section pathetic? And on and on. Yes, a Stoke or a Birmingham or a Wolverhampton would be much better.
OTOH, Stoke comes, and you might get only 9000 at the game. The idea is to make some money off folks who don't normally come. Plus, some return. My first Rapids game was the Everton friendly. Someday I hope MLS fans can accept that people like other leagues.
I like other leagues too (Arsenal and FC Koln guy here), but I do think its ridiculous to follow other leagues closer than your own league. AND to act like MLS is a joke pisses me off.
Well, that's why I consider myself twisted for prefering Stoke to Chelsea. On the other, other hand though, to pay to bring Chelsea (or any big name) into an 18K stadium the ticket prices would have to be pretty high. How many people are going to be willing to pay $50-$60 for a ticket to a game at the Dick?
For the chance to accost John Terry? As long as you hide your kids, hide your wife, I think that pays for itself.
Man, suspense and Rapids are finally hand in hand. Have to go with Omar too, He is in final year of contract (as well as J Smith, Kimura and Thompson- Jason can correct me). But we will have to wait and see.
Hard to tell from the phrasing here, but it appears that his contract in 2010 took him through this season but there are two option years after that. http://www.denverpost.com/rapids/ci_14515989
its omar... am i the only one who isnt exactly ecstatic about re-signing him...id rather see how he performed the rest of the season than re-sign him now http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2012/05/rapids-re-sign-forward-omar-cummings
I'm with you. In my view, he's been an average, at best, MLS forward since his last good year in 2010.
It depends on the price tag. I can see where you are coming from though. In a salary cap league it’s all relative.
My hope is that now that he is getting paid it allows him to relax a bit. Last year he seemed to feel like he had to carry all of the offensive weight on his own. This year he has been out of position for the most part. Maybe now he can at least have confidence that his future is settled for a while and he can focus on taking care of business.
