Ives' writer names Cascio the Rookie of the Month: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2012/04/sbi-mls-rookie-of-the-month-tony-cascio.html
Ives is back to his old tricks with his team of the month selections: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2012/04/sbi-mls-best-xi-of-the-month-march.html He talks about how great SJ has been, but the team tied for 3rd overall with them, the Rapids? No first team members, no second team members, and Cummings gets an honorable mention.
Wynne is at it again. You might remember this image from last summer: This time he's at the Dumb Friends League: BTW, Marvell, the cat that Cat Care Society named after Wynne, is doing well and has been adopted to a new home: http://www.examiner.com/article/miracle-marvell-gets-a-second-chance-from-the-cat-care-society
According to Tim Hinchey's Tweet, Don Garber is visiting the Dick today. Also completely unrelated but the team store still doesn't have authentic kits with the star on them, but you can still buy authentic kits with the scudetto.
I just saw Jason’s Ives quote from the DC thread in MLS NA concerning red card appeals. Quote It begs the questions. What will happen first? The Rapids winning a hosting home field coin toss in the US Open to Buyers Cup or appealing a red card?
Tonight's reserve lineup: [LINEUP-4-3-3]O'Neill*,Akpan,Serna*,Janniere,Yamada,Thompson,Freeman,Marshall,Palguta,Ababio,Ceus[/LINEUP-4-3-3] * = Academy players Ababio red carded for a bad tackle in the 42' minute, injuring KC's Ellis in the process (but he was able to continue). Armstrong came in for Yamada in the 68' Thompson set up Akpan for a goal in the 84' Perez on for Jannerie in the 87' Final score, 1-0 Rapids
That's a good win with such an inexperienced lineup plus a man down for 50 minutes or so. KC's starting lineup: Reserve League Starting XI versus #Rapids: Kempin; Harrington, Olum, Warzycha, Ellis; Nagamura, Sassano, Saad; Aiyegbusi, Bunbury, Peterson.
The Don was here yesterday. Wish there could have been some fan involvement. This quote drove me a little nuts: "Nothing is better for this market than that (owner Stan) Kroenke is involved." I wonder what his definition of "involvement" is... OR maybe it was a warning to him to get his rear around here a bit more?
It was this quote that bothered me: Quick, somebody tell Don that KC is actually in the Eastern conference!
Yeah, NFL might be interested in that statement since he is not suppose to have any involvment in any Pro sport out-side of St Louis (due to Rams ownership).
Not true. The NFL restricts ownership of MLB, NHL, and NBA teams but not pro soccer teams. This exception was put in for the NASL because Lamar Hunt was such a supporter of soccer and an owner of the Chiefs. The exception was never removed after the demise of the NASL and applies to MLS today. That's how Kraft can own the Patriots and Revs and Paul Allen the Seahawks and part of the Sounders. Plus the Hunt family still owning the Chiefs along with the Crew and Dallas.
They only care about MLB, NBA or NHL ("major sports league," heh). Edit: should have hit refresh. One thing to add to Jason's post--you're allowed to own an MLB, NBA or NHL franchise in the same territory as the NFL club, or in a neutral territory.
Seems this would include Rapids- Care less about NFL rules, Just that Don seems to have mis-spoken. All Colorado sports properties are in the name of Josh Kroenke, one of his children, to satisfy NFL ownership restrictions that forbid a team owner from owning teams in other markets To gain approval from NFL owners, Kroenke agreed to turn over control of the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche to his son, Josh, by the end of 2010, and he must give up his majority stake in both teams by December 2014 (I pray this includes Rapids too but like you all have said MLS may not count) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5496516
Nope, at least it wasn't required. And the ownership turnover happened in August of 2010 and it was Stan, not josh, who was on the field with the team when they received the MLS Cup in November of 2010. This article specifically talks about him turning over the Nuggets and Avs, but mentions later he also owns the Mammoth and Rapids (as well as Arsenal) with no mention of him turning over ownership of those properties. http://www.nba.com/2010/news/08/25/stan-kroenke-rams.ap/index.html Also here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_...ited_States_and_Canada#Ownership_restrictions I thought the exception was granted by the NFL but it was actually the courts that granted it.
It's in the NFL by-laws (the part about teams from other leagues are in the appendix, pg. "1997-1": When a soccer or other sports team because a big enough threat, they could just amend the by-laws later.
More info on the USOC hosting process this year: http://thecup.us/more-details-revealed-on-new-us-open-cup-hosting-process/ Round 1: 15% of everything over $100K Round 2: 15% of everything over $100K Round 3: $12K + 15% of everything over $100K -- Rapids enter here Round 4: $18K + 15% of everything over $100K Quarterfinals: $25K + 15% of everything over $100K Semi-finals: Blind bid Finals: Blind bid What are the odds the Rapids pay the money?
Do you mean the flat fee, or how likely would it be to reach the 15%? Hard to see them having to pay 15%, huh?
I think in previous years when they picked the venue it's been a modified version of the "blind draw", specifically only the Rapids representative was "blind". USOC Rep: Awww, tough luck Paul, you lost again Paul: Why is everyone giggling?
Oh, safe bet we'll never reach that level before the blind-bidding rounds. Actually It think its more like: USOC Rep: And the draw is...Colorado Paul: I'm blind, I can't see anything, so I assume you drew our opposition. What hotel do you recommend we stay at?
I don't know how bracketing would work but is there a chance we could get RSL to open and actually play here- giving up 15%? Seems that game, LA Galaxy or maybe Pacific NW would get us the biggest draw? Otherwise, for purely $, we might as well travel.
It seems as if chickens are being counted here. Does any Rapids fan really believe that these eggs will hatch?
Sigh. Just flip the coin they've used in years past for the answer to that. Upon reflection, I'm not even that disappointed if we don't host one. Not only do the numbers not add up for us, it does seem ridiculous to pay a home fee, I mean, what kind of two-bit tournament is this? Are there prices for PKs? I prefer the two-leg format, it just seems less influenced by off-field forces. Tukwila or bust!
My guess is the fee is used to cover travel expenses for some of the lower level teams who will still be in the running at that point.
