Indeed. Hits dangerously close to home. Great to see somebody else with this journey who has been able to examine herself, get the help she needed, and move on. So incredibly sad to know that sometimes depression wins. Thrilled this isn't happening for her.
Wasn't sure whether to start a separate thread for this, but I went to the MWC QFs today. UNR defeated Boise State and UNLV was leading Fresno State 2-0 when I had to cut out around 82' for the restroom. Both entertaining, but the first one much more so, IMHO. Looked like both GKs were very busy, and had some good moves. The weather was ridiculously cold at the end. That was something I wasn't prepared for. It was supposed to be low to mid-60's which I usually handle the best. But it seemed MUCH cooler at the end. I am not a weather buff, but does humidity or lack thereof affect "Feels Like" temp? SDSU plays Friday.
Aztecs women reach MW soccer final with 3-0 win Tod Leonard gets the byline this time. "The top-seeded Aztecs (18-1-1), who have won 11 games in a row, will play second-seeded New Mexico (11-6-2) in the final on Sunday at 1 p.m. Earlier on Friday, the Lobos beat sixth-seeded Nevada 1-0."
AZTECS VS. LOBOS FOR A TITLE is the actual title of the article in the newspaper, which also has a big picture of some of the players celebrating after a goal in the semi-final.
Half-time, with the Aztecs holding a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 23rd minute by Kesley Booth. She scored on a header after SDSU's lone corner kick came to her off an attempted clearance header went almost straight in the air. SDSU had the upper hand in possession, shots, shots on goal, and quality shots - while kicking into a stiff wind, with a 90-degree temperature.
With about 17 minutes to go, SDSU takes a 2-0 lead. Jurado takes a hard low shot from the left side that is stopped with a diving save by the keeper - but Sarah Halverson was there to knock in the rebound from point-blank range.
Pretty good turnout. Kind of physical game at times. But we got it. Ironically, I'll need to be on campus tomorrow when the fixture list is revealed, so I'll need to wait.
Aztec women's soccer seizes MWC title The picture with this article shows some of that 'physical' play the teams engaged in (although, in this case, the SDSU player didn't get to the ball before the keeper punched it (and her) out. ) It's too bad they didn't get that #1 seed - would liked to have seen them play at home in all their playoff games.
AZTECS FACE A TOUGH ROAD IN TOURNEY That is the title on the print version of this article by Mark Zeigler.
These good times have even Monty smiling on the Mesa I'm not sure why, but a lot of online titles are different from the actual newspaper. This article talks about how the SDSU teams are rooting for each other.
And a great win, 3-0, although we were outshot. Some cards flew, too, but I lost track of who got the yellows. Also, WTF, weather?!?! I thought it was supposed to clear up, but no, we got showered on more than I prefer. Already some merchandise out! Some nice caps, tees and crews. Cal next. ETA: Somehow I forgot the 4-team pods were not done away with, just pushed to Rds. 2/3. So on Fri., there's UCLA and UK followed by our fixture with Cal. (4:30/7:00 if I read the tweet right).
Had a great time tonight! Northridge was a good side, played good soccer just don't have the quality that SDSU has. Aztecs didn't look their best but were deadly efficient and kept enough of the ball and limited Northridge to maybe one or two or zero dangerous looks. Great crowd, fun game. Really had a good time. Looking forward to next weekend.
Zeigler - SDSU Women Beat Northridge Congratulations to the Lady Aztecs - article includes a small set of pictures. Also congratulations to the division-II UCSD Tritons, who survived on a 2nd overtime golden goal.
Palmer is SDSU's dangerous defender It would be nice to see an Aztec get some interest from the USWNT system...
UT article - Aztecs score dramatic win over CAL GoAztecs article - Hurst's Game-Winner Lifts SDSU over California I also want to congratulate the UCSD Tritons, who again win in over-time, giving coach BrianMcManus his 433rd DivII win.
