To kick things off again this year, let's start this off again. The season gets started today (Sunday, April 15), with two matches. Breakers at Independence (Philly wins 2-1) Sky Blue at Western NY (Sky Blue pulls off the upset 3-2, on Fox Soccer at 6:00 pm) I think both will be outstanding matches, but those are my predictions. Western NY is not as good this year without Marta. The 4th season of WPS should be the best.
Atlanta plays against the new expansion team this weekend. Here's this weekend's matches. Philadelphia at Boston (rematch of opening day this past weekend) (already? yep) Western NY at Sky Blue (another rematch of this past weekend) (get used to it) Atlanta at Vonage FC (Atlanta gets to test out its muscle against the new expansion team) I can't wait to see the new orange uniforms that Vonage will be wearing. Switching to Vonage could save you money on your phone service
Honestly guys this is stupid. Call it whatever you want but this league, in my opinion, is not coming back. And if by some miracle it does, it will be in a much more watered down version. Unless we are doing some sarcastic comedy, this is pointless.
Yes, this league will be watered down. All the teams will have to be sponsored by someone, and the team name itself will be the sponsor. Sky Blue FC next year will be known under their new team name, Bic FC. Here are the teams next year .... Vonage FC (plays their home matches at random locations in Florida) Lincoln Park Red Stars (Chicago, Illinois) KFC FC (Louisville, KY, right next to the KFC headquarters building) Bic FC (location: New Jersey) Hamburger Helper Classic (Roanoke, VA) (owned by the Betty Crocker company) FC Superpetz (Philadelphia, PA) Be sure to come out to the park on "Dog Chow Night". Free admission to your best friend, if you know what we mean. Only one best friend allowed inside the gates, per each party.
Great game yesterday by Brittany Bock. She seems to have total control out there, and she won't let anyone push her around. She is a badass chick on the pitch that just won't take sh*t from anyone. She always seems to play better on TV, aka Fox Soccer Channel. Did you see highlights of the Atlanta Beat game? That goal by India Trotter was incredible. And that looked like Sun Wen in the crowd, cheering on her Atlanta Beat. She's supposedly here visiting a relative in America. Great weekend of action in the WPS. Can't wait for week 3 this coming weekend. We'll get to watch Kelly Smith of the Breakers, as she is starting to recover better from her lower leg injury from the world cup. Vonage FC is coming on strong, and Lisa De Vanna is a handful in the open field. The Breakers will have to find a way to mark her. Did anyone else notice that Kerri Hanks is a reserve player now for Vonage? They picked her up on a 10 day contract. We'll see if she gets into the match. This is the 12th different WPS franchise she has tried out for over the past 4 years (the original seven, plus Philadelphia, Atlanta, MagicJack, Western NY, and now Vonage FC). If Hanks doesn't make it, she can still try out for the new expansion franchise in St. Louis in 2013. And speaking of the new expansion team in 2013, FC Google Voice is going to operate with an extensively lean payroll. Therefore, lesser talented players have a better chance to make their club. They will certainly be in the cellar in the league, but it's good to see St. Louis back (although they won't have green uniforms, they'll be blue and gray). FC Google Voice
