Breath still held. Gabriel Badilla was a center back and Mauricio Castro was an attacker. I want to see their pedigrees before I pass judgment.

Both are from South America, which means no over-the-hill Europeans!

Great news, I'm just hoping the centerback isn't the Ntame trialist guy and is instead someone who would definitely be a solid MLS level player.

EDIT: they're both from south america, yay!

Haha the jury is still out whether they're over the hill south americans. Maybe Carlos Valderrama is attempting a comeback.

THE ROAD NORTH: Jaime Castrillón and Hanyer Mosquera are the latest Colombians who've been linked with a move to MLS. A report says Castrillón - a 28-year-old midfielder with 28 caps for the national team - and Mosquera - a 24-year-old defender - have both turned down Millonarios and signed in MLS. No teams are mentioned, but they got the news from a tweet from the official Millonarios handle.

Heard from someone on twitter that Revs were looking at a pair of Columbians a few weeks ago, could these be our guys?

Jaime Castrillón is a strong, skillfull, big target guy, but more agile than Caraglio.

Hanyer Mosquera is a big and quick CB who can dominate in the air and on the ground. His foot skills are slightly lacking.

They both sound like they'd be good signings.

Word of advice, don't Google image search for "Jaime Castrillon" at work.

    Re: 2012 Pre-season Thread I - the Quest for Quality [R's]

The prospect of us getting 2 solid foreign players in their 20's is absolutely unheard of. If this is true, I'd be absolutely astonished and deliriously happy at the same time.

EDIT: also props for the knowledge of Columbian league players

2nd EDIT: wikipedia has Castrillon listed as a midfielder and at about 5'10. Doesn't really match your description of a targetman.

Excited to hear about those 2 Colombians, even if there are some talented Ivy League Columbians. ;)

Spanish language news sites are widely reporting that Castrillon is headed to Colorado to play under Pareja. Not much out there on the Mosquera move, but what rumors there are point to Portland.

Hmmm that's interesting because those 2 fit the description Bilello gave us exactly. Would I be surprised a Columbian international isn't coming to the Revs though? Haha nope.

Neither would I. There are tons of Columbians that have been linked with MLS over the last few weeks.

The story does seem to fit the Revs' M.O. (two guys on the same team, probably with the same agent). That, and the fact that one's an attacker, and one's a CB.

Ya it just seemed to fit the bill exactly according to what Bilello said. We'll all find out tomorrow I guess.

Not from the same team. Millonarios was trying to sign both of them for the upcoming year. Mosquera played for La Equidad and Castrillion played for Independiente Medellín (the same team that Hernán Pertuz - an FCD signing - played for).

    Re: 2012 Pre-season Thread I - the Quest for Quality [R's]

This isn't quite correct. The word comes from Christopher Columbus. Thus in English, it is common to say Columbia. In Spanish, they say his name was Colon, and thus say Colombia. Its similar to Brazil vs Brasil.

"Columbia" technically isn't correct when refering to the nation, but has become so wide spread that it isn't 100% wrong.

So if your writing a news paper article, paper, or formal document, use Colombia. Otherwise, it really doesn't mater.

Please God let the Revs new signings be under 30 with no history of injuries. Let them be players with speed and the ability to man mark in the box and make a 20 yard pass to their own teammate going forward and be able to put the ball in the back of the auld onion bag. Amen

Tell you what, if its not these two guys, the two they sign better be the same caliber talent and the same age. We can not continue to sign over the hill run of the mill internationals while other teams are signing 26 year old fixtures of their prospective national teams.
