The lowly Royals edge out the Yanks, 4-3. A-Rod grounded out to end the game, stranding Derek Jeter on 3rd base. They left 10 men on in total. The Yankees have scored only 6 runs in the last 4 games. Jeter continues ripping the ball, going 4-for-5 (3 singles, 1 double) and raising his average to .404. David Phelps, in his 1st MLB start, went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 5. Box Score - Royals 4, Yankees 3 Royals Earn 1st Win at Home - ESPN
This is an activity Mariano has apparently been doing for the last 18 years as a pre-game warm-up. The Yankees, over the years during spring training and in the regular season, have left Rivera to his own devices as far as keeping in shape is concerned. They have always let him set his own routine. This isn't the same as Joba Chamberlain jumping on a trampoline or Aaron Boone playing basketball. It was an on-field accident and nobody's fault. Shit happens. Looking for a head to chop off would be wrong. Mariano's Future in Doubt After Tearing ACL - N.Y. Yankees Mariano will be getting a second opinion in New York on Monday, FWIW.
I was gutted to read the news. Just gutted. Sad day in Yankee land. I think he'll be back next season. He won't (can't) go out like this. Even if its a bit part role next season i think he will be back.
Derek Jeter whacked a 2-run homer during a 4-run 7th inning to launch the Yankees to a 6-2 victory. Teixeira hit a 2-run homer in the 1st. Sabathia went 8 and is now 4-0. David Robertson finished up in the 9th by striking out the side. He's now struck out 21 batters over 12 innings and hasn't allowed any runs. So the Yankees can't get a hit until the 5th inning against a guy, Felipe Paulino, making his 2012 pitching debut and whose MLB career record was 10-31! Russell Martin's homer in the 7th kept it from being a shutout. Hiroki Kuroda still inconsistant as hell, only managing to go 4 1/3 innings. The Yankees are dithering around about the status of Andy Pettitte. The big shots are scheduled to meet today to discuss the situation. I don't know why this couldn't have been taken care yesterday. It happens to be that important. Brian Cashman was quoted in the N.Y. Daily News as saying: "We're not making any decision on Andy Pettitte. I don't have to make a decision... We’ll take him when he's ready and when we feel he's ready to help us." What the hell is an idiot remark like that supposed to mean? They have Pettitte impatiently sitting up in Rochester while they jerk off over this. I know Cash likes to keep his cards close to the vest, but this isn't exactly something which needs to be stamped "Top Secret." I hate it when Yankee management behaves this way. It's 'corporate culture' bullshit. Anyway, here's the pitching form -- as it would go without Andy... vs. Tampa Bay Rays (19-10, .655) at Yankee Stadium Tue.- Ivan Nova (3-1, 5.58) vs. James Shields (5-0, 3.05); 7.05 on YES, MLBN Wed.- David Phelps (0-1, 3.74) vs. Jeff Niemann (2-3, 4.05); 7.05 on YES, ESPN Thu.- CC Sabathia (4-0, 4.15) vs. David Price (5-1, 2.35); 7.05 on YES, MLBN vs. Seattle Mariners (14-17, .452) at Yankee Stadium Fri.- Hiroki Kuroda (2-4, 3.75) vs. Felix Hernandez (3-1, 1.89); 7:05 on YES Sat.- Phil Hughes (2-4, 6.67) vs Hector Noesi (2-3, 6.30); 4:05 on YES Sun.- Ivan Nova vs. Blake Beavan (1-3, 4.32); 1:05 on YES A.L.
