No miracle homers last night. Yankee pitching has been great. Staff ERA for the series is 1.93! CC was outstanding in closing down the series, only getting into some hot water in the 8th but pitching out of it. An RBI single by Ibanez, an RBI double by Ichiro, and a homer from Granderson produced the needed runs. (A-Rod was benched the entire game and wasn't missed for a second.) Only roster change: Nunez out, Eppley in. Yankees will carry 12 pitchers. I don't like Nunez being left off since hitting has been the Yanks biggest problem and he's a guy who can produce. Because we replaced our terrible pitcher with a competent one. With no Jeter, your order is going to struggle more than it has. And with CC not going until game 4, he could be pitching just to keep you from elimination.
Jeter's broken ankle overshadows everything. Yanks needed another stunning 9th-inning rally to tie after blowing golden scoring opportunities in the 1st, 2nd and 6th. Can't keep waiting until the end and Raul Ibanez to play catch up. Should have won it in the 10th but stranded pinch-runner Gardner. Eduardo Nunez put on the roster. Joe Girardi says Alex Rodriguez will not be moved to short. We've made it this far without Mariano -- we can get across the finish line without The Captain. Should we perform an autopsy now? Robinson Cano has set a post-season record by going hitless in 26 consecutive at-bats. The Yankees have scored in 1 inning out of 21 ALCS innings. Team batting average of .216 -- the non-hit parade during the entire playoffs include Martin (.192), Swisher (.154), Rodriguez (.130), Granderson (.115), Cano (.063). Oh yeah, can the umpires please be replaced by the former NFL replacement refs? They couldn't do a worse job. Instant replay... NOW!!! I stopped watching after game 1. That was a big opportunity missed and Jete's injury just let the air out of the balloon. That was massive. You could feel the heads going down. Lets just avoid the sweep. Yankee hitters should be ashamed of themselves. The supposedly weak starting pitching has been nothing short of fantastic. And folks should put down the A-Rod haterade. There is plenty of blame to go around. Cano is supposed to be the The Guy now right? Lol.
Jeter let the air out of my balloon by flying out to end the 10th inning of Game 1 with Brett Gardner at 3rd base -- 90 feet away from victory. A winning hit would have avoided his injury and set a whole different complexion for the series. I guess Eduardo Nunez and Ichiro (.429) were the only ones not to receive the memo about laying down and rolling over. My belief is that they may actually wake up tonight, score a million runs, get us all excited, and then return to form and go sleepwalking into a 4-games-to-1 outster. Not that i want to relive the Game 1 nonsense but the easy catch in RF that Swisher missed which led to their run was really astounding to me. He was pretending like he lost it in the light or something. His glove wasn't even close to it. After the 9th inning heroics from Ibanez (again!!!) it was just morale zapping to lose the game and the Captain. This hasn't been just this year though riverplate. When was the last time we had clutch hitting from this ball club? Players have come and gone. 2009? Even before that all i can remember about October is our inability to get the hit with RISP. Its really astounding to see. How many different players have we had, good players, average players, Nick Swisher...... How can players like Cano light it up heading into the playoffs and then fall off the cliff like that?? I don't understand what the problem is. Like i said this isn't about just this year. Some of the pitchers we've faced so far are down right ordinary and we made them look like Koufax and Gibson. I can understand when you come up against somebody like a Verlander but come on...... Annibal Sanchez............. give me a fcuking break. I don't ever want my team to lose but i certainly hope Detroit puts us out of our misery tonight. Lets just start the long harsh winter and let the fans and media start the whining and crying and blaming everything on Alex Rodriguez. What a fecking shame..... We could have done something special this year. /rant
