Tonight we start the eliminating process of determining a champion. Will Houston make it back to MLS Cup? Will Chicago Fire supporters set a Guiness World Record for the number of times the same word is repeated over 90 minutes?

Tomorrow well-dressed Martin Rennie leads his mediocre Canadian squad to the slaughter against defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy. Will UC Dominguez Hills limit the capacity crowd to 9,000, four tarps and Bruce Arena's oversized ego?

    It's the Knockout Round

    Chicago : Houston, 10/31, ESPN2 9 pm., Toyota Park
Los Angeles : Vancouver, 11/1, NBCSN 10:30 pm, Home Depot Center

this is why i won't watch this match

I was looking at the brackets and trying to figure out which team I wanted to win the whole thing. It's like trying to decide which ugly girl is the prettiest. However, San Jose is my choice just because of Wondo.

But Chicago might lose, in front of their own fans, when just two weeks ago they were in 3rd place in the entire league. Wouldn't that be spectacular?

Oh yes. Yes it would. I will celebrate when I see the box score. I'd rather not get annoyed in the process. :D

I'm all-in for San Jose. They went from out of the playoffs to best in the league. I'd like to see them get rewarded. And Wondo's great, I still have a soft spot for Lenhart, and it'd be nice to see Buschie finally get his Cup.

SJ is one of the teams I don't have any issues with. Their fans are great and they've been through a lot. It would be nice to see Busch win MLS Cup as well as you said.

If Houston and Vancouver both win, I'd be quite content.

    First of all, awesome OP.

And I have to say that I am kind of digging the new playoff format now that it's here.

I don't want to imagine the type and/or amount of jubilation the head chimp-in-charge Garber will emit once GoldenBalls wins a championship. Yuck, yuck, and more yuck.

He'll spurt like a geyser if the Semi's are LA in SEA and CHI in NY with the final being LA at NY. Nightmare ending if you ask me.

SJ and KC would be who I'd like to win. If SEA fans weren't suck cock-knuckles, I'd be fine with Sigi getting another cup.

We don't Seattle to win it at all or ever. They got the douche-iest fan base who think they are entitled respect because they sell 40K seats every home game. I wouldn't mind seeing KC win it just to give some Midwest love.

Exactly. You basically just defined cock-knuckles.

SJ just because of the former Crew connection.

Only bad thing about SKC winning, would be that former Crew connection Kai 'Abel Xavier's my daddy" Kamara would get a ring.

This is complicated. I dont want Chicago to win and I'm on board with them being bounced at home. If we're lucky, we might even get to see another intra-supporter's section fist fight! I'd otherwise be OK with KC except I really don't want to live in a world where Kei Kamara is an MLS Champion. LA and RBNY are grouped together - I'd love to see the collective $10M+ salaries on their 5 DPs be all for naught. I wouldn't mind Seattle go far because they will fill their stadium with people and if I'm not mistaken, that $ is shared round the league. But I certainly don't want them to win because they have a pretty insufferable fanbase. Correct me if I'm wrong (as if I needed to ask), but if San Jose goes all the way, MLS Cup 2012 will be played in Buck Shaw Stadium: capacity 10,500?

But don't you feel that unless the Crew are involved, I don't want a Crew-type team winning it? Makes it harder. If LA or NY win it, at least I can console myself knowing that it is probably because they spent so much money on their teams. In addition, I don't want some team winning it when they have not won it before. Why? because if at some point every team has one it at least once, it devalues our accomplishment!

I wonder how fast they could get an alternative venue. If I were them, I'd be starting to look at those possibilities now.

Good points. Perhaps if a rich club won it, it would tell HSG that they'd have to pony up the cash in order to win (buy?) the trophy.

That is why the league has Toronto FC in it. 100% no chance of devaluation.

Well, I'm a regular listener to the Extratime podcast, and they occasionally talk to Frank Yallop. They've asked him that question a few times. Because there's the possibility of moving the thing to Stanford to get the larger crowd. Yallop makes it sound like he'd like to play at Buck Shaw, as that's their true home at the moment.

So in other words... we don't know yet.

It would be kind of interesting, now that Houston is in the Eastern Conference, if they somehow snuck in and we got to see San Jose 1.0 v San Jose 2.0.

Reminder: KC and SJ have already qualified for next year's CCL. If they both make the final, DC and NY would get the next 2 spots. On the face of it, we don't want to cheer for NY and DC, but on the other hand, giving those 2 the additional distraction of the CCL may make our path in the east a little easier next year.

To be honest, once MLS Cup was moved to Sunday night, I stopped watching. Not because of protest, but because of the TV being tied up elsewhere. With the exception of about five minutes of MLS Cup 2009, I haven't seen a Cup game since 2008.

Plus, our flameouts post-2008 playoffs left a bitter taste with me and other sports commitments left little, if any, time to watch MLS games.
