lol, i'm sorry, but half the shit you spew is garbage. taking a ching who flat out said that he would retire and join the houston staff was a smart move but not taking ned who said he didnt want to go to Canada was not a good deal? not seeing it.

and your andy diatribe is getting tiring, i'd miss andy if he came back, but the guy has taken a step or two back in the last year. he just ISNT the same player as he was in the past, not anymore. if not bringing back andy for his salary meant we got a hold of another Gil and Espy (two player combo), i'd be ok with it. andy brings a lot of experience, a lot of insight, a lot of skill, great he can teach that to new guys.....as a coach. hire him to the staff, but spending 100k+ is not necessary when we have young guys who need time on the field to completely develop. at what point do you say andy's time is cutting into the development of some of your potentially great young guys. that point is now.

i'm all for andy coming back, if RSL can negotiate a proper contract with him. but i dont want RSL handcuffing itself to a player who probably is not going to be a major contributor. andy can contribute this team in more ways than just as a player who will MAYBE get 15 minutes here or there. and he can do it without taking a roster spot and weighing down $100k+ in salary cap.

LOL, give me a break, who is laughting in Houston, no one. Houston played a stupid move and lost, just like we did with Kries. "We got caught with our pants down and had to pay to get him back". You don't think Montreal will get something out of this. I would be shocked if Ching just hung it up. Soccer is in his blood. No one wants to hang it up on someone elses terms. He has great value still as a trade back to Houston or to another team. If at worst, you just made Houston worse by making him retire. If you are a Houston player are you going to feel any loyalty to the team when they show none to someone like Ching. Ned is not the same, a great player yes, but not worth the gamble of Ching knowing that Ned doesn't want to come either. Was Warner the right move, I don't know. I find it hard to believe that he was one of the ten best unprotected player. If it were me I would take the best talent available and trade it if needed. Time will tell but I don't think Warner is going to be a star. As for Andy, don't be an idiot, who said you have to pay Andy 100K to stay. Second, they aren't offering him a coaching job so the arguement of bring him on to help as a coach doesn't work.

I get the feeling that some people who's posts I can't see are unfamiliar with negotiation processes. They are usually hard-nosed, with hard-line positions taken publicly (Ching's 'I will retire', Kinnear's 'no negotiation', etc.) and agents telling players what they should do to manage public pressure on clubs (which is what I suspect is behind Andy's brief "I'm Done" and his twitter profile now saying "Original Reggae Boyz" instead of 'Original RSL').

Or, maybe (not the speculation word there) the person who's postings I can't see is and agent and very familiar with the negotiation process... I don't know... but it is a strange pattern... 2 years since last posting and now very regular and on a narrow range of topics.

    BalanceUT,
If only I was Andy's agent, maybe the team would have offered him a contract. I have moved this over to the 2012 player thread for a better fit. More said there.

That's a bit misleading. I was on the conference call. Garth just made the point that alot of these guys may not end up playing for Montreal. He suggested that there might even be some pre-worked deals that were done - meaning some of these players were drafted and will be traded to other teams. He was not insinuating that Warner was one of these.

I agree, I just think the Trib reporter made it sound like 1) Warner might not play for Montreal and 2) its possible that through trades Warner could go elsewhere, maybe RSL.

At least thats what I thought when I read it first.

There was an interview of Marsch (IIRC) in which he said that they expected to do a lot of deals prior to the draft, similar to one they had done last year to get a loan of a Portland player. Turns out there was not so much of that evidenced before the draft, but it might all be out there. Given the holiday coming right on the heals of the draft, it may take a few days extra for it all to work out.

And, they have the extra drama of working out something for Ching.
